El G supporting Vin G on Sat, Worcester

In the absence of chief trumpet-blower Breezy, posting this myself:
Vin Garbutt just called and asked me if I'd support him at his Worcester (UK) concert this Saturday. I said I'd think about it...No, I b****y didn't - I said "yes" of course, and "how much do I need to pay?". It's at the Huntingdon Hall Arts Centre, Crowngate, Worcester.
If any Mudcatters were planning to come see Vin, please don't be put off by my presence, and I'll be paying out 2 drachmas per cheer at the end.

Who's Vin Garbutt (he says) My advice is not to use these up and comers when you have a big Gig El Grecko. You should have done the gig on your own....from what I have heard you don't need support from anyone.....!!!

Wish I could be there to see you.

You'll love it there George. John Tams described it as like playing on the inside of a violin.
We aim to be there. Looking forward to seeing you.

Definitely a white tie and tails occasion, I'd say...

...and what a splendid night it was.
George played to a full house - and the guy that opened for him was pretty good too - whatever his name was.
I'd only heard George on CD before, but if anything I think he was better live. His lovely relaxed voice and his fluent style on the 12 string guitar were a joy.

Well, I enjoyed myself immensely. And Vin, so generous, made quite a meal of singing my praises both in his intro of me and in the intro for The Flowers & the Guns, when he sang it. I also got interviewed by Genevieve for her BBC Radio Shropshire folk programme, after Vin - it would have gone out tonight, but I didn't hear it, as by that time I was in Hitchin with Vin, and just got back home a few minutes ago. And Watson and Genevieve were most complimentary on the night; and I got kissed by 2 ladies-of-a-certain-age after the concert, when they found me in the garden sneaking a smoke. And I got approached by two folk club organisers for gigs too...Can't be bad.
I passed all your good wishes to Vin - and I thank you for those you sent to me. But...back to the dayjob tomorrow.
lots of love - George

So you were the guy in the stripy shirt at Hitchin last night!

Horizontal black-and-blue like an asphyxiated bee, yes, Terry. I'd given Vin a lift from Worcester in the afternoon.
Hitchin was a great night too, in some ways better than Worcester - smaller room, more audience participation. And Vin, knowing he was off home at last in the morning, was pumped full of adrenalin. I woke up this morning with "Filippino maid" in the brain.
Sorry we didn't get to meet. My fault, I should have worn my Mudcatters' badge...

Me too - I sat quietly at the back and sang loudly in the choruses!

cheers, Terry

George, the interview did indeed go out on Sunday night, along with three tracks from your CDs - see the current playlist.
You'll also see that that Mark Dowding chap was well represented.

Hi Harry

Tell the folks whose idea it was to send my CD to Genevieve.

Here's a coincidence for you. I had a phone call this afternoon when I was at work and it was someone from Oxford who left a message and said they enjoyed listening to the CD that I'd sent his mate and he particulary liked "Come Whoam To Thi Childer And Me" written by Edwin Waugh in 1856. The gentleman's name who rang was Edwin Waugh and Edwin Waugh of long ago is his ancestor. I'm trying to get back in touch with him to find out more information!

Hope you can find out some more, Mark. "Come Whoam..." is a cracking song and the first of Waugh's published works for which he actually received a payment...the princely sum of one guinea from the Manchester Examiner!!

Isn't folk music wonderful!!!
