DAVID FRANCEY SCORES
With the Molson Canadian Heritage Classic Hockey Game
Francey's Video 'Skating Rink' to air during Saturday's Game

One of the most anticipated NHL games of the year is set to take place this Saturday, November 22, at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta. Included in the schedule is the NHL's first ever, regular season, outdoor hockey game between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens. The day's events all-star line up includes Wayne Gretzke, Grant Fuhr, Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey, Guy Lafleur, Guy Charbonneau, Guy Lapointe, Larry Robinson and…David Francey!

During the CBC National broadcast of this special occasion, Francey's music video 'Skating Rink' is set to air. 'Skating Rink' is also the title track from David's third album, which was released this March on Laker Music and distributed by Festival Distribution.

"My family immigrated to Canada from Ayrshire, Scotland. Ever since my first introduction to hockey in the Sixties, I've loved the game. I would watch "Hockey Night in Canada" with my father and would play ball hockey until the streetlights came on. I am thrilled to be part of such an amazing event." -David Francey

About the video: "The weather was perfect, the rink was alive with skaters of all ages out for a pick-up game of hockey... and our good friend, Tony Girardin, and his buddies filmed the scene and put it together in a delightful "almost" 3 minute video of David's song, 'Skating Rink'. From lacing up skates to flooding the rink after everyone goes home, this video is real (including the laughter and the sound of skates on ice) and the stars are ordinary folks enjoying themselves on a small outdoor rink in Quebec. The Skating Rink video is a tribute to what goes on every winter in many small towns across the colder regions of North America." DF

I met David Francey when he performed in Anchorage last year. After his concert we sat around in somebody's living room swapping songs and stories. David is an immensely talented song writer who absolutely deserves all the wonderful things that are coming his way. Way to go David. (Say hi to Dave Clarke for me).

I remember reading about that Alaska tour! Dave and David did a house concert in my living room too. I know I've said it before, but I think he's one of the best song writers, and does so well teaming up with Dave (and sometimes Geoff).

You know, sometimes we talk about how folk music gets treated poorly, not played to a wide enough audience, not taught in schools, not respected by radios, TVs, award shows....then you get this fairly new on the scene folk singer who is going to get an absolutely immense audience this weekend, simply by linking up with our national sport! It's quite funny really. Go, David, go!

Gads! The guy is everywhere!

Francey's Touring Schedule

No wonder I haven't met up with him since he moved in down the road from me. I've seen him in the yard a time or two though.

Hey, I heard on the radio this morning that they might have to cancel the first outdoor NHL hockey game! It might be too cold!

You're right, W-O, he's a traveller. I don't know if he ever comes up for air. Say hi to Beth for me if you see her.

Did you hear? They played the Francey Skating Rink song, but not the video! Apparently it was played along with clips from the old-timers game. (I was out at a concert last night so I missed the whole thing. We'll have to see if we caught it on tape).

Good point, Willie-O. I'm sure she'd find that a bit weird. Better to use my real name.

Oh, here's what Beth said about David's song last night:

"Well, it was a thrill none the less!
It was David Francey's song "Skating Rink", not the video, that aired on CBC as part of the Heritage night of Hockey at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. I was thrilled to see the montage of the event, including Gretzky's smiling face, with David singing in the background. And a lovely credit for the song by Ron MacLean too. Sports and folk music do go together! If anyone wants to see the video anyway we have a link to it on our site. yours, Beth Girdler www.davidfrancey.com"

I think the Maple Leafs needed David this week.
