21 Nov 03 - 03:27 PM (#1058691) Subject: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: Amos Please review the astonishing correlations revealed in this FAQ page between peace and the consumption of pork. Also review their I think an eye-opening, ground-breaking piece of research has occurred here ad we all ought to be spreading the word about the Pork is Peace Home Page. Thanks for having an open mind about this, guys.... A |

21 Nov 03 - 03:52 PM (#1058714) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: Alaska Mike Its an interesting corrolation, Amos. But there is a fundamental flaw in the pork/peace logic. The US consumes vast amounts of pork, and is also (and has been for many decades) the primary war monger of the planet. Just my opinion, Mike |

21 Nov 03 - 04:23 PM (#1058726) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: SueB It seems to me the page is suggesting that Muslims (and other non-pork-eating people, i.e., non-Christians) are responsible for all the trouble in the world. Um. Well. Uh. Oh, wait a minute - is this one of those examples of the kind of subtle irony that Americans don't get? Where's McGrath of Harlow? "Astonishing" is right. |

21 Nov 03 - 04:35 PM (#1058733) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: Peter T. I fail to see the humour in extended jokes about suicide bombers. On the other hand, a core threat to world peace is the militarization of the United States, which depends on the spreading of weapons building in all 50 states; as well as American emissions of greenhouse gases -- both depend upon pork-ridden bills like the energy bill waddling through Congress today. yours, Peter T. |

21 Nov 03 - 05:05 PM (#1058745) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: Bill D stuff like peace, energy and Social Security/Medicare are way too important to have simple, sane approaches! Best to tie them up with bills designed by Republican dominated business interests so that no one can make heads or tails of who is deciding what. Much more 'predictable' that way...besides, the pharaceutical companies, with THEIR new bill (they say it's 'medicare'...but..) will soon be making sure we have lots of pills that will calm us down. |

21 Nov 03 - 06:29 PM (#1058794) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: Amos Clearly, PT is in the latter category here-- he is much too smart to slip into the first category unawares. The humor is thick and slapstick, and I can understand that someone might find it not at all funny. I feel the same way about certain kinds of BS on other threads. "NOI", and I hope "NOT". A |

Given that we are discussing something beneath contempt..... yours, Peter T. |

24 Nov 03 - 10:17 AM (#1059884) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: Midchuck The survival value of humor is in giving us a way to cope with situations so bad that we might not be able to contemplate them and stay sane without it. People who get huffy when other people make jokes about the really terrible aspects of life are missing the point of what jokes are for. In my opinion. Peter. |

24 Nov 03 - 11:38 AM (#1059931) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: Wolfgang I did smile a bit about the humour in those pages (which by the way, in my perception, is not at all at the expense of Muslims; the real targets are the porc eating Westerners taking their own way of life much too serious) but what really made me laugh out loud were the brilliant posts parodying humourless left-wingers. Keep up the good work. Wolfgang |

25 Nov 03 - 02:53 PM (#1060744) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: greg stephens There's an intriguing historical fact that in parts of Scotland, quite localised, there was an antipathy to eating pork, and various bad-luck kind of stories associated with pigs. This gave rise to various (crackpot???)theories that one or more of the LOst Tribes of Israel ended up in Scotland. Now, this new leads me to ask (a) where exactly are these bits of Scotland, because I cant remember and (b) have they had a more violent history than other bits. Was Glencoe, for example, one of the no-pig areas? |

27 Nov 03 - 02:55 AM (#1061822) Subject: RE: BS: The Secret to Peace is Pork From: alanabit I thought it was funny - and I am a vegetarian. I didn't feel in the slightest that it was a swipe at either veggies or Muslims. I have never seen the need to take offence where no malice was intended. I have often seen humour here which I have found ugly. What I find ugly, some folks find funny. I have no complaint about that. If we have to worry about offending people every time we pass on something which we find funny, the world might become a tiny bit safer. On the other hand, it will certainly become a lot duller. I can live with other folks' different sense of humour. |
