Review: Kedrick, Jordan Dipper in Yorkshire

Great gig from this new band up in Ryburn 3 Step country last night (Tuesday).

Colin Patterson was not in singing mode due to illness so his place was taken by Keith Kendrick. The new trio had obviously worked hard at putting a set together (that afternoon) and gave everyone a great evening. Keith has a CD with seasonal songs and we had few of those; some of the tunes off PJD's new CD were played notably the M1 Waltz (by Nigel Chippindale) and a good night was had by all. Ralphie was excellent form and John Dipper seems to play the fiddle wih his fingers hardly moving.

Great tribute to the three of them and their musicianship that such a quality gig could be put together at such short notice. And perhaps even one of those unique evenings that may never happen again!!

Glad I was there. (And a great pub and folk club too).

Poor James - he's so ill he's even lost his name....

Though Jon's dad is called Colin, and plays concertina.

Jon's dad is called Colin but manufactures concertinas with his wife Rosalie (probably the best concertinas in the world) but when ever I have seen him he seems to mostly play the serpent.

Sorry Jon!

John Dipper is the godson of John Heydon. Colin Heydon is the godson of Colin Dipper - because the younger Colin and John were born when John Heydon was running the Herga Folk Club and Colin Dipper was a resident. John Heydon, Colin Dipper and James Patterson all danced with Herga Morris but not necessarily at the same time (John and Colin were founder members....). Ralphie, of course, is a Fraser Sister when not being part of PJD, KJD.

Hi,

Isn't genealogy a wonderful thing......... Thanks for all that!! As someone who has been into folk for more years than I ever dare to remember............I have always thought that the great thing is that everyone knows everyone else. A great advantage when you are a bookseller.

I once sold some books to a well-known figure who (I am sure) totally forgot to pay me. When I next bumped into him the first thing he said was "I owe you for those books". Great and a fine example of why I don't sell..........well anything else in the books line.......

Regards,

I just think we were very lucky that the fathers of John Dipper, Andy Cutting and Saul Rose were all members of the Herga Folk Club and danced with Herga Morris, as did James Patterson who is a wonderful singer.
