Avoid a job that requires wearing a tie or a 3 piece suit. Turn your TV into a fish tank. Walk instead of driving if the destination is 3 blocks or less away. Avoid enlisting in a small town rural police force that wears tight pants and jack boots. Never call yourself "Bubba". NEVER use the drive-through at a bank, restaurant, etc. Eat moderately and make sure to eat raw vegetables a fair bit. Exercise a lot. Move to Cuba, and just watch how the locals do it...fat people are rather rare there, but most people are in good shape. A hot climate can help. Drink lots of water, and sweat it out. Discharge bottled-up emotions. Think thin thoughts (this last may be the most crucial of all). - LH |

The "spread" is starting to hit me, so I've caught it early before it sets in for good. I've started running twice a week in the mornings, and the flab that was starting to build up has mostly gone after 6 weeks of that. I can't say it's exactly painless though - the twofold problem of (a) hauling yourself out of bed on a frosty morning, and (b) forcing yourself round the last quarter of your circuit when you're out there, are not what I'd call enjoyable. Like most painful things, exercise only feels good when it stops. On this subject, a quote from a friend who's planning on doing the London Marathon:- Up to 3 miles: Elated with the occasion. Glad to be alive Waving at the crowd Around 10 miles: Enjoying the occasion Alive Ignoring the crowd Around 18 miles: No longer enjoying the occasion Lucky to be alive Swearing at the crowd Around 22 miles: Crying like a baby Wishing to be dead Pleading with the crowd 26.2 miles: Gibbering incomprehensibly Believing one is dead Boring the crowd rigid with split times... |

And if anyone been on the vegan thread... it isn't the veganism! I've actually put on weight since I turned vegan... but maybe that's cause I eat more now. Now I'm not really bothered about it... because at least I'm healthy :-)... but I'd still rather put on some more weight! Not be fat... but not too thin! |

She is and was really thin. People would make hurtful comments to her just as they did to me (I was the exact opposite of her). This is probably because they're enjoying food more, eating more, and it's even more because their body is not depleting itself all the time trying to fight a rearguard action against the ill effects of the smoking habit. In my case, I have never smoked and I've always been thin. My parents are both quite fat (and started getting that way in their 30's and 40's). I am 55 and I'm still thin. GUEST's argument has just gone down in flames... :-) It's attitude. Attitude is the most important thing. Your body type and your general behaviour tend to develop from your inner attitude, and attitude goes deep. Sometimes deeper than you think. Some people are happy to be large, some are happy to be small. Either way of being happy sounds good to me. Some people wouldn't be happy no matter what size they were. Ask Abe Lincoln about that.
