Vodka & Red Bull Christmas Cake Ingredients: 1 cup water 1 cup of brown sugar 1 tsp baking soda 1 cup of sugar 1 tsp salt Lemon Juice 4 large eggs Nuts 1 bottle of Vodka 1 can of Red Bull 2 cups dried fruit Method: 1. Sample the vodka to check the quality. 2. Take a large bowl, check the vodka again. 3. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and mix with a little red bull and drink. 4. Repeat. 5. Turn on the electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. 6. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. 7. At this point it is best to make sure the vodka is still ok. 8. Flavour with red bull to taste. 9. Try another cup - just in case turn off the mixerer. 10. Break two leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. 11. Pick fruit off floor 12. Mix on the turner. 13. If the dried fruit gets stuck in the beaterers, pry it loose with a drewscriver. 14. Shample the vodka to check for tonsisticitity, flavour with a little Bed Rull. 15. Next ssiffft two cups of salt. Or something … Who giveshz a shi** 16. Throw a pinch of Bed Rull over your shoulder 17. Pick up the can, mop the floor 18. Check the vodka 19. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. 20. Add one table. 21. Add a shpoon of shugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. 22. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over.. 23. Don't forget to beat off the turner 24. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the vodka and kick the dog. 25. Fall into bed. CHERRY MISTMAS I've seen a similar one with whisky too. Got it somewhere - I think I'd prefer the whisky (hic). |

12 Dec 03 - 01:32 PM (#1071038) Subject: RE: BS: Latest threat - FRUITCAKE From: Schantieman Rich, dark, fruit and rum (or brandy)-laden fruitcake is indeed one of life's most wonderful confections. Ideally it should be covered - not too thickly - in marzipan and royal icing. What we have here, of course, is proper old-fashioned birthday/wedding/Christmas cake. When I got married, I insisted on this type of cake. My bride insisted on sponge. So the bottom layer was rich & fruity, the top two were light and inconsequential. It didn't last. For die-hard self-proclaimed fruitcake haters, I simply wait an extra month and re-label my fruitcake and "Dark Fruit and Nut Loaf," and they always love that ;) Originally, fruitcake was devised as a means of preserving the summer's fruits and goodness over the winter, which is probably why we still assocaitge it with Christmas in many places. The symbolism of a properly preserved cake, chock full of nutrition, that will last many years makes ti particularly appropriate for a traditional wedding gift. And I use cognac on my fruitcake... |

16 Dec 03 - 11:41 AM (#1073757) Subject: RE: BS: Latest threat - FRUITCAKE From: The Fooles Troupe Currants, sultanas and raisins are all different grape varieties. You can make wine from them I do believe, but I am not an expert - they are normally grown to be sundried. I suppose there is nothing to prevent you from making wine with the dried fruit - I have heard of currant wine. I do believe blackcurrants are not grapes. Oh, and a Sultana is the wife of a Sultan... :-) Candied peel (the good quality stuff) is used because it gives a delightful citrus fragance, and kept well. In earlier days, nothing was wasted on a farm, which is why we have sausages.... :-) Windfall apples (scrumps) were used to make cider - which is where the name scrumpy comes from - actually a good use for them as windfall apples are too sweet and ripe to keep long in storage... I forget how it worked, but I think we added canned fruit every so often. It was fermenting and the new fruit kept it going (this is apparently the fruit world's answer to sourdough). I liked the fruit, but a little went a long way. There must have been a starter of some sort, like sourdough.
