That perhaps adds a touch of blasphemy to the bawdry in the song of that title that is sung in a pub by the heroine's mother in the movie version of _A Taste of Honey_ by Shelagh Delany (1961). Unfortunately, I can make out the words to only a few lines: Why does he follow me about? Why does he help me shell the peas? He throws her out and takes me back. Can anybody point me to the rest of it? |

I gather that it was made as a spoof and surprisingly became a hit. Was it a parody of that ? I'll never let you go Why, because I love you. I'll always love you so Why, because you love me. |

If no-one's done it by then, I'll have a go. From memory the first verse goes .. I'm slavey at a small hotel they call the Travellers Rest I like the missus very well but I like the master best Although I'm only 20 and he's nearly 63 I'd do anything for him and he'd do anything for me.
