Heard a song called "My Fathers House" by an Irish singer from Co. Clare once called PJ Murrihy. It Starts..

The Gable wall, is all that's left now
The Old Thatch Cottage is almost gone,
I dry my eyes, as i sadly remeber
Tales of Yesterday
When i was young.

In My fathers house, We were poor, but rich in love,
No TV but good times there were plenty of,
The night time neighbours called around,
And stayed till 12 or 1
In My Fathers house, when i was young................

Anyone out there know the rest of the lyrics, would be much appreciated. can't get this outa my head, and thats really f***ing annoying when you don't know the words!

Hi, Simon - this page (click) has track listings for some of P.J. Murrihy's recordings, but I don't see one that fits what you're seeking.Somebody here is bound to come up with it, so keep checking this thread.
Murrihy sounds like an interesting guy. Other pages I found say he's a championship ploughman. Click here for more information about Murrihy.

Here.

Funnily enough I got asked for this last week and had a look on google and all I could find was a Bruce Springsteen song.

I have a few scraps of words and a tune in my head, and can't find anything on Google. This may be a completely different song, as I have no recollection of having heard Murrihy... but it might jog someone else's memory. The title, and the first line, as well as the last, was 'In my father's house'.

"In my father's house
There was sanctuary.."

"When it rained outside
Love was our umbrella..."

HELP!!! I have the "My Father's House" CD, by P.J. Murrihy..... Some of the words I have managed to hear, but some which I can't quite pick up that are marked in question marks.......

My Father's House

The Gable wall, is all that's left now
The Old Thatch Cottage is falling down,
I dried my eyes, as I sadly remember
It not long ago, when I was young
In my Father's house, we were poor, but rich in love,
No TV but music's there were plenty of,
And my mama hun, for meadow geese and we all sang along
In my Father's house, when I was young

Come the time when I am older,
My own children are reared and gone
I wondered then, if they finally remember,
It not long ago, they were young
In my Fathers house, ?????????????
A friendly word we were travellers ??????? for……..
And at night time neighbours scrambled in and might stayed till 12 or 1
In My Fathers house, when I was young.

Years has passed and time are changing
Rambling house is almost gone,
But still I'm here……??????………children
It was not long ago, when I was young

In my Father's house, we were poor, but rich in love,
No TV but good times there were plenty of,
We made the beds of what we had and we sang a happy songs

In My Father's House, when I was young
In My Father's House, when I was young

I would vey much appreciate a reply from anyone to send me the missing words please........

I have now got the complete words of 'My Father's House' (When I Was Young) by P. J. Murrihy:

My Father's House (When I Was Young)
(P. J. Murrihy)

The Gable wall, is all that's left now
The Old Thatch Cottage is falling down,
I dried my eyes, as I sadly remember
It not long ago, when I was young

In my Father's house, we were poor, but rich in love,
No TV but music's there were plenty of,
And my mama hum, for mellow geese and we all sang along

In my Father's house, when I was young
Come the time when I am older,
My own children are reared and gone
I wondered then, if they fondly remember,
It was not long ago, when they were young

In my Fathers house, a style will greet you at the door
A friendly words weary travellers there was a welcome for
And at night time neighbours scrambled in and might stayed till 12 or 1
In My Fathers house, when I was young.

Years has passed and time are changing
Rambling house is almost gone,
But still I hear the laughter of children
Just like long ago, when I was young

In my Father's house, we were poor, but rich in love,
No TV but good time there were plenty of,
We made the best of what we had and we sang a happy songs

In My Father's House, when I was young

Days of long ago when they were young
And my mother hummed sweet melodies and we all sang along

In my fathers house a smile would greet you at the door

night time neighbours rambled in

A darlin' tune.

MY FATHER'S HOUSE

1.The gabled wall, is all that's left now,
The old thatch cottage, is almost gone.
I dry my eyes, as I sadly remember
The days of long ago, when I was young.

(Chorus):
In My Father's House we were poor, but rich in love,
No TV, but music, we had plenty of.
My mama hummed those melodies, and we all sang along,
In My Father's House, when I was young.

2.Come the time, when I am older,
And my own children, are rear'd and gone,
I wonder then, will they fondly remember,
The days of long ago, when they were young.

(2nd Chorus):
In My Father's House, a smile would greet you at the door,
A friendly word, even travellers, there was welcome for.
And at night-time neighbours rambled in, and might stay till 12 or 1,
In My Father's House, when I was young.

3.Years have passed, times are changing,
The rambling house, is almost gone.
But still I hear, the laughter of children,
Just like long ago, when I was young.

(3rd chorus):
In My Father's House, we were poor, but rich in love,
No TV, but good times, there was plenty of.
We made the best of what we had, and we sang a happy song,
In My Father's House, when I was young,
In My Father's House, where I was born.

Allmusic.com says MY FATHER'S HOUSE was written by Kevin Sheeran. It can be found on the albums "Thirty Years On" by The Fureys, and "Ireland" by Foster & Allen.

Listening to a couple of sound samples has revealed a few differences:

The gabled wall is all that's left now,
The old thatched cottage has fallen down.
I dry my eyes, as I fondly remember
The days of long ago, when I was young....

A pdf file showing lyrics and chords can be found here.

Does anyone know who sings this song? I am not sure what the title is, perhaps "in my father's house"

"In my father's house
There was sanctuary.."

"When it rained outside
Love was our umbrella..."

This version of the song is now available on a CD, Moon Over Ireland, by Daniel O'Donnell. It may be a bit different than some of the above:

MY FATHER'S HOUSE
(Kevin Sheeran)

The gable wall is all that's left now
The old thatch cottage has fallen down.
I dry my eyes as I fondly remember
The days of long ago, when I was young.

In my father's house we were poor but rich in love,
No TV but music there was plenty of.

My Mamma hummed old melodies and we all sang along
In my father's house, when I was young.

Come the time when I am older,
My own children are there to come.
I wonder then, will they fondly remember
The days of long ago, when they were young.

In my father's house a smile would greet you at the door,
A friendly word even travelers there was welcome for.

And at night time neighbors rambled in
And might stay till 12 or 1
In my father's house when I was young.

The years have passed and times are changing;
The rambling house has almost gone.
But I still hear the laughter of children,
Just as long ago, when I was young.

In my father's house, we were poor but rich in love.
No TV, but good times there was plenty of.
We made the best of what we had and we sang a happy song,
In my father's house when I was young…

In my father's house when I was young.
