Edmunds and Lowe

For my Brit friends, mostly...

I've always loved Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds, although they're never been all that big over here... Edmunds had I Hear You Knocking, and Lowe, I Knew The Bride When She Used To Rock And Roll. I just picked up Plugged IN by Dave Edmunds.

What I'm wondering is, were Edmunds and Lowe, or Rockpile very big in England, and does anybody give a Damn about them these days? The only ones I know who I'd put ahead of Edmunds on electric guitar and Hendrix and Knobler..

Jeremy, I'd agree that Knobler is a finer thrash metal man.

I too love the music of these two, and have searched round a bit to find news of Dave Edmunds. He has a website, I believe, but the last time I looked it was a year or so out of date. But he's still doing stuff, so if you find any tour dates, I'd be pleased to know, and maybe we can dissuade DeanMeister from this silly Status Quo nonsense.

Dave Edmunds was always respected by musicians, but dodn;t have that much chart success. Sabre dance with Love Sculpture, and I hear you knocking, in his early days, then the Repeat When Necessary album - late 70's?
Nick Lowe mostly had minor hits over a period of time. He was well respected by Johnny Cash, whose daughter, Carlene Carter was married to Lowe for a time (during the 80's I think).
I saw Rockpile on only one ocasion and they were excellent, although Dave Edmunds voice was out of action for that week, so I didn't hear the full works.
It's a long time since I heard much of either of them, but British radio has generally gone downhill, and if they suspect than anyone can really sing or play guitar, they become persona non grata.
Quack!
