This morning my father passed away in his sleep. He lives in Ireland and I live in England. He had many, many friends here and before I go to Ireland I would like to place an obituary in our local paper. Can anyone tell me what Rest In Peace is in Gaelic, as that is what he would have liked. Regards Red. |

Mine has been gone for 30 years and I still think of him everyday and hope that I'm as good at the job as he was. If my boys think I'm half as good as I knew he was, then I'll be happy. Although this is not in Irish, it is a Celtic blessing which I came across some years ago and the last lines might be relevant. "May the blessing of the light be with you - Light outside and light within. May sunlight shine upon you and warm your heart, 'Til it glows like a great peat fire, So that the stranger may come and warm himself by it. May the blessed light shine out of your two eyes Like a candle set in two windows of a house, Bidding the wanderer to come in out of the storm. May you ever give a kindly greeting to those you pass As you go along the roads. May the blessing of rain - the sweet, soft rain fall upon you, So that little flowers may spring up to shed Their sweetness in the air. I'm sure your late father would have a laugh at that one. |
