BS: Michael Jackass to visit UK

What the hell is happenning in the good ole USofA? Why has the Californian court given an alleged child abuser special dispensation and his passport back to go off trying to flog his rehashed greatest hits album to an idiotic British public? Thanks but we don't want him, we have our own pop paedophiles in Gary Glitter and Jonathon King. Even John Prescott cannot believe they're letting the little bugger out of America!

Aren't they concerned that this multi-millionaire might just use his dollars to abscond to anywhere in the world he desires; he could even visit Gary Glitter in Cambodia. Oh well wishful thinking.

Is this policy going to be extended to all suspected criminals in America or just those who have an CD, film or book to promote? Can you do a Jeffrey Archer and write a book about your time inside, be it only 1 day, and get out on a technicality? Has the whole of California gone mad because the evidence is mounting up?

What do 'catters in US think of this amazing line in justice? And UK ones for that matter?

Could it be they're working on a cunning plan where he manages to hole up somewhere out of the way? The UK trip would be a diversion.

Immigration may stop him on the way in anyway if they don't recognise him from his passport photograph - Presumably he renews it every year as he gets freakier.

He should stay where he is - he may get more reaction to his visit than he's expecting.

Specially in view of the recent conviction of Ian Huntley... The major upset is that he wasn't caught before. If MJ is let in, there well may be a whole heap of people ready to renew the old tradition of lynching.

British and with a criminal conviction, or a trial pending, he would never get a visa to enter the States.
He should not be allowed in here either.
Maybe the authorities are hoping he'll do a runner to somewhere where they can't extradite him, so they can keep his tax but not have to deal with the situation

You lot on Mudcat amaze me. Mention Capital Punishment for convicted child-murderers like Huntley and you all burst into tears, switch into Politically-Correct mode, leap onto the highest piece of moral high-ground you can find and plead for mercy for the bastards (see the other thread), yet you're happy to condemn an as-yet-unconvicted-and-therefore-presumed-innocent artiste who just wants to go about the lawful business of promoting his career.
You're unbelievable, I'm out of here.

So you think we should have bailled Huntley and let him have his passport to go off travelling then as he was not guilty of anything until last week?

Stupid stupid stupid

No, Beardy, I'm not stupid and of course I don't believe that. I was making a point (clearly too subtly for you) that a large number of contributors to the 'Capital Punishment' thread appear to have been motivated by a compassion for the convicted which doesn't appear to have been mirrored in their pre-judgment of Jackson. The language used in this thread towards Jackson is savage and clearly assumes his guilt, and that is my objection. There seems to be great hypocrisy operating here, when individuals claim to be paragons of compassion (as in the 'Capital Punishment' thread) yet viciously condemn out of hand someone who, as yet, has not been convicted of anything.

For the record I strongly suspect he's guilty as charged, however I prefer to wait for the court's decision before I slag the guy off.

I don't know if he's guilty, but while their is doubt about the allegation it seems a risk to let him have freedom to travel anywhere. If he's innocent then no damage done, but if he is guilty there is a chance of even more damage.

Could it be, perchance, Strollin' Johny, that while the capital punishment thread is a serious debate on whether a life should be taken this one is a rather tongue in cheek one about a strange pop singer with an even stranger life style?

Unless my sense of humour decieves me, most of the comments up to now seem to have been rather whimsical, shall we say:-)

Whoops, sorry, just realised that perhaps yours were of the same ilk! Bit subtle for me as well I'm afraid but I got there eventualy...

Of course, Mudcat has clearly convicted MJ without trial; therefore the whole concept of innocent until proven guilty is not used.

Oh, sorry, one thing does puzzle me though (As Columbo always said)

There seems to be great hypocrisy operating here, when individuals claim to be paragons of compassion (as in the 'Capital Punishment' thread) yet viciously condemn out of hand someone who, as yet, has not been convicted of anything.

I have not spotted a single name doing this? Let alone a large number of contributors to the 'Capital Punishment' thread

Is this a subtle ploy as well? Bit too much for me I'm afraid.

Can you explain, preferably with examples...

Cheers

My thoughts exactly DtG. The question isn't of guilt it's of will he abscond and how can he be allowed to retain his passport. I don't necessarily aree regarding the whimsy as I think this is quite a serious matter. How would US citizens feel if Britain let a suspected paedophile out on bail to specifically visit their country?

And then there are the people like me who wouldn't even have bothered to read this thread at all, except for the pun in the title which caught my eye momentarily. I've got any number of things I worry about too, but this Michael Jackson fiasco is certainly not one of them.

Nor does it move me in the direction of supporting capital punishment. Not in the least.

Since he has to travel to promote his business, why should he be prevented from going? Britain has an extradition agreement with the USA. He can hardly hide from anyone for long, being so famous and unique an individual. Since he surrendered voluntarily, and has already been aquitted once on similar charges, why should he be considered a threat?

He's not a threat to society in general at all. He's a media extravaganza for gossipy minds to fixate upon, and a personal tragedy of epic proportions. He's also a handy distraction to redirect people's attention from stuff that actually matters...like the wrongdoings of people in high places who do really big things like invading other countries just because they want to.

Of course, it all depends what pushes your buttons, doesn't it? MJ revelations just don't fire my imagination.
