23 Dec 03 - 10:37 AM (#1078442) Subject: New 'old' Tom Paxton CD From: Chris in Wheaton Thought I'd re-post this - in case the original subject heading did not ring any bells - See http://www.annehills.com/ There is a new cd out of a show that Anne Hills, Tom Paxton and Bob Gibson did way back when, and which has just been fixed up by Rich Warren. The three performed for a short time as The Best of Friends. Very nice material, and not dated - anymore than their fans are. Anybody who has walked thru the Loop when the Winter wind is off the Lake will identify with the lyrics to "And Loving You." Some of this was also on Paxton's record, "And Loving You," but I don't think that has been reissued on cd. It always sounded to me like a bunch of diminished minors - or whatever - that is beyond my Old Town School chordal education. Any help you could give on this would be greatly appreciated. The Reader had a squib on Paxton being at the Old Town School for New Year's Eve. It said that some of his songs are dated now, but that maybe he will re-cycle his song about Michael Jackson. I hope not. We did a concert with Paxton in San Diego once and he did his song putting down the America's Cup - I don't think he knew that San Diego was strongly supporting Dennis Conner's bid to win the cup. But I do think his non-topical songs are great and I still enjoy many, especially "Home to Me" which, I think, is on the cd. Thanks and Merry Christmas - and a great '04, Chris |
