In a moment of pure serendipity, I found this programme on radio Scotland yesterday,[Christmas eve] Follow the link and in Christmas Eve's programmes click the programme name, you will need Real Player, but in my book it's well worth the effort.

What a Gem. I am only about < half way through the documentary and listening to it now. He sure sounds like Jimmy Rodgers and I am predicting how the piece will end...

The documentary just finished. Anyone who likes the Jimmy Rodgers style will surely like this.

I am aware of convergent evolution on different continents but this is a good example of what I would call convergent cultural evolution.

Thomas never experienced the same cultural influences that Rodgers did that would help mold his musical style. He nontheless expressed and developed, mostly independently, a very similar style in an unlikely area (Shetland) distinctly different from the western U.S.

I get lost in the link but the title sounds like pure Hank Williams rather than Jimmie Rodgers .

Obie, when you get to the BBC Scotland page, scroll down the page and you will come to a programme list for Christmas Eve. Click on the little blue symbol to the right of the title, and that should get you to the desired place.
