Janet Jones - Where did she go

Subject: Janet Jones - Where did she go
From: GUEST,Lancashire Lad

Does anyone know whatever happened to a female folk singer called Janet Jones? She recorded 2 LPs in the 1970s on the Midas label (UK). A tremendous voice and fine interpreter of traditional songs. Would love to know if he is still recording or made any other albums aside from the two (now almost worn out) albums I have already.
Also does anyone know anything of her history, where she came from, who she sang with, etc

She used to sing at the Watermill Inn at Pateley Bridge a great deal- I last saw her about 3 years ago at Allan McEvoy's funeral ( leader of the Crofters ) and she was fine.
She used to live in Bingley, or thereabouts, I believe.
D'you want me to ask around, see if anyone knows where she is at this time, address, etc?

Hi Greycap

Yes any info would be appreciated.

Is she still singing? or recording?

She was a truly gifted singer, it would be a great loss if she had given up

Janet has a new CD out. It is called "A Fresh Wind Waves" and is a re-mastered version (2011) of a Janet Jones 1976 EP. It is available for purchase from the Bronte Parsonage Museum shop in Haworth. Janet's website is currently under construction and should be up and running in three weeks time. The CD will then be available from the website and a link to the website will be posted on this thread.

Emily Brontë was born on 30 July 1818 at Thornton, Bradford. I made this video of one of the poems/songs on the CD and uploaded it to my YouTube channel at the beginning of July. It has been made public today to coincide with the anniversary of Emily's birthday.

I should have made my previous post clearer by saying that the CD has 5 Emily Brontë poems set to music by and sung by Janet Jones.

A bit of the flavour of Yorkshire here ~ but not where I live :) This song was written by Bob Jackson and is sung to a traditional tune by Janet on the LP "Sing To Me Lady". It's about pollution in Yorkshire.

Just need to put right what I wrongly posted earlier. "Sing To Me Lady" was the first LP (1972) and the 2nd LP (1974) was simply called "Janet Jones".

It's good to see the website up and running today. All the best to Janet with the CD; it is a worthwhile project and very well done.

Aire Valley Music was set up to produce and promote songs, music and literature from the Aire valley area of Yorkshire. A Fresh Wind Waves ~ Emily Brontë poems set to music and sung by Janet Jones has been released in the same year as the 2011 film Jane Eyre which was of course written by Emily's sister Charlotte.

I am Janet's husband and sang with her for a while. We were both at Alan's funeral, a sad and joyous occasion.

I'm afraid Janet is no longer singing. She has Lewy Body Dementia along with type 1 diabetes and can't really remember words or play guitar. I sometimes play guitar and she tries to sing along to written words. If anyone would like more info please email me homekey24@hotmail.com
