(He is also an African American but that doesn't have anything to do with the story other than as a role model for young black folks.). Last year he fly his open cockpit Sterman by-plane to the North Pole. He flew through storms and extreme cold temperatures (like 50 below zero...) but he made it and made it part of the way home before his 1938 by-plane wouldn't fly any longer so he landed it and accepted a ride back on a *real* plane, you know, one with heat... Well, now this 37 year old businessman is going to attempt to be the first pilot to fly a single engine prop plane around the world flying over both the North and South Poles. The plane, an experienmental Cuban plane with a single engine but props fore and aft is so small that other than Gus and knapsack of power bars and water, there is no room for anything else. Imagine yourself in half a phone booth and that's what he's flying in as you read this. Now, in these days of so much stuff that man is doing seems to be so motivated by hatred, this is a real feel-good-for-mankind story. Gus has a website for folks to keep up with his progress and I'd hope that someone who does "blues clicky" things will assist me in getting to his website, gusmcleod.com so that many of my Cat friends can be with this man as he exhibits courage way beyond anything that has been done in years....
