30 Dec 03 - 09:55 AM (#1082321) Subject: Tech: Walliostro banjo mandolin From: GUEST,Jack Cook I've just obtained an old banjo mandolin. It says "Walliostro zither mandoline" on the peghead. I believe it's from England, and the previous owner thought it was from the turn of the century (20th), but I really have no idea. Does anyone have any information about this company, their instruments and their histroy? Also, I need to find a new bridge for it, as the existing one is too high, and I need to lower the action. It would be a wooden tenor banjo-type bridge. I want to keep the original one as is just in case I need it, rather than sand it down. Anyone know a good place to get such a thing (US, preferrably, as that's where I live)? thanks, Jack |

If so, Mandolin Bros. would be a good bet. http://www.mandoweb.com/workshop And speaking of tech stuff, I have not been able to make a blue clicky using the utility that Mudcat provides. Sorry, Jack. I when home Christmas and my mum handed me Walliostro Zither mandolin. She said it was my Great great granddads which would tie in with your turn of the century idea. I am English and so was he, which also backs up your information I have also had trouble with the original bridge being particularly high. I don't know how similar these two instruments are but I would love to see a picture.. b_beazley@fsmail.net and I would be happy to send one. Take care Ben |
