BS: Snitch-Gate Heatin' Up, Mr. Rove....

Well danged if this ain't somethin'...

Johnny Ashcroft has had to recluse himself from the investigation on just who in the White House fingered Valerie Plame, the wife of Joseph Wilson who countered Bush's claims that Iraq was trying to secre uranium form Niger...

Hmmmmm? Why the recusal, one might ask? Well, the way I see it is that Johnny has discovered somethin' that he'd rather not talk about. If this ain't it then why didn't he recuse himself a while back before the Justice Department started the investigation?

Peeeeuuuuwwwww. What's that smell? Hmmmmmm, smells like someone in the White House been doing some heavy swaetin', to me...

But, not to worry, the investigation has been passed from one "tag victim" to another and everything that Johnny knows will have to be *re*discovered and that won't happen before the '04 Election Debackle so the King is secure....

But I don't think I'd want to be in Karl Rove's shoes around this time next year...

Unless, of course, King George just *officially* calls off democracy, declares martial law and starts wearing a crown around the White House... which, unfortunately, is a very real possibility...

I wouldn't get all het up over this. The script goes like this; someone takes the fall for this, not the right person mind you, and that is the end of the story. Sad, innit?

And so it goes.

Funny how there are always so many rogues operating around the higher echelons, getting involved in dodgy operations with nobody else ever knowing what they're up to. Who's watchin' the kids?

First, I misread the title of this thread. Then I read that Ashcroft wants to know just who fingered Ms Plame. Gawd, that Lookin' for a Companion thread has put my mind in the gutter.

I kind agree with you, Walking Eagle, but there's always that outside chance that someone will get the story mixed up and then the entire thing could crumble. The Bush folks would like to run out the clock on this one and get thru the '04 Selection. Actually, they're doing a darned good job of running out the clock on lots of issues. Problem is that what they have achieved is a house of cards and they are more vulnerable than most folks think. If the American people sniff one tiny lie then the big ones come closer into focus...

The wild card in all of this, Bobert, is the fact that the Dems have rarely been up to maintaining a consistent pressure for justice in situations such as this.

Hell, they even had to enlist Repub help before they were able to get Nixon.

Am I mis-remembering? I thought that Karl Rove had served as a political consultant on John Ashcroft's failed U.S. Senate campaign. If that's right, there's little Ashcroft could do but recluse himself. No mystery there.

However, it is surprising and delightful to me that the investigation is moving up to a higher level and I hope that Rove gets skewered!

"Recluse" is a noun isn't it, not a verb? It means someone who avoids contact with other people and stays indoors as much as possible. I don't think that it is correct to say that someone is "reclusing" himself, although I certainly get the drift of what you mean in a general sense.

It is hardly necessary to form a vast conspiracy...all one needs is a fairly large number of people in powerful places who share a common philosophy, and certain results will inevitably follow. For instance, suppose one's philosophy was:

1. making more money is the main point of life
2. having more of material things is always better
3. he who makes the most money can have the most material things
4. no amount of anything can ever be too much
5. if other people have way less than you do, it means they are losers who don't count anyway...screw 'em!

Now, given such a philosophy one hardly needs a conspiracy in order to cut down every forest, pollute every watershed, corrupt every political and legal system, and finally accomplish a revolution, a war or a general financial and social collapse....or all of those.

After which one starts over again, if one is still alive. Destructive philosophies beget destructive results.

Well, Little Hawk, a well written piece indeed and , as per usual, I find myself in total agreement with yer observations and philosophy...

But did I say "reclues" 'er "reduse"? Now, I don't remember but if I said "reluse", I meant '"recuse" which is similar but a legalistic term fir, ahhh, steppin' aside...

That's why I find it strange that Johnny Ashcrof would "recuse" himself after a couple of months of having knowledge of what the Justice Department has found. He's is hired by the very folks who don't particualrlly want to be cought with their hands in the cookie jar if there is any way in Hell to pin it on someone else...

I will have to give the guy some credit for recognizing that if he were to stay involved that there was gonna be some conflict of interest, seein' as he has most probably found that the leak came from deep within the Bush White House (his bosses)...

Doug, I know a lady who grew up in the bush with her trapper family. She says she has eaten the meat of just about every kind of animal and the only one she couldn't stomach was crow.

I figured that's why the expression "eat crow" came about.

During these unsartin times I habv hunted an found a few good receppts fer finger lickin' good crow. Thar is no shortage of the beasts so thar is no excuse fer anyone to go around hungry.

Crow Creole

Ingredients
2 medium onions
2 fresh chilies chopped
2 ribs celery
3 cloves garlic minced
¼ pound butter
16oz. chicken broth
1 can whole tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
8oz. ketchup
1/8 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
1 tablespoons hot pepper sauce
1/2 tablespoons garlic sauce
1/4 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 pound (12 pieces, or so) crow breast chopped into bite-sized pieces
Preparation
Brown the crow breasts in a skillet with butter or oil. When browned, place them in a Sauté onion, celery, chilies and garlic in butter until tender. Add the above ingredients and all of the remaining ingredients to a crock pot and cook on low for 6-7 hours.

To serve, heap about 1 cup of rice in the center of the plate, and ladle a generous amount of the sauce around it. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

The recipe above reminds me of my grandmother's cure for the cold, flu, pneumonia, ague, corns, boils, headache, stomach upset, etc.

Take a pint of rum and marinate a single clove in the bottle for exactly 17 seconds. Strain, and drink the broth.

Is there any evidence that ordinary voters anywhere take much notice of evidence that some politician or public servant has been caught lying or cheating or stealing?

After all, if you start from the assumption that those kinds of things are what they mostly do all the time anyway, which many people do, all that scandals do is demonstrate that some of them aren't as good at getting away with it as others. It could even be suggested that getting caught might sometimes indicate the people concerned are a bit less practised at it than the others, and maybe even less of a crook...

Derivation:The expression's origins are American, from imagery and folklore                from the late 19th century. Crow would have been regarded as a rather                distasteful dish, much like the original English Umble Pie metaphor from the                1700's (see Eat Humble Pie below). According to etymologist James Rogers,                eating crow became the subject of a story reported in the Atlanta Constitution                in 1888, which told the tale of an American soldier in the War of 1812, who                shot a crow during a ceasefire. A British officer complimented the soldier on                his shooting and asked to see the gun, which when handed to him, he turned on                the soldier, reprimanding him for trespassing, and forcing the soldier to eat a                piece of the dead crow. However, on having the gun returned to him, the soldier                promptly turned the weapon on the officer, and made him eat the rest of the                crow.

Or so ' tis said.

Not really, McGrath...

There are three groups of voters. The first is the Repub. base. The second is the Dem. base. And the third is the swing voters who don't make their minds up until about a week or two before the elections. And, unfortunately, the bulk of them just want to vote for a winner!

"Hmmmm, this guy Adolf seems to be leading in the polls so I'll just vote fir him...."

Ya only have to sway about 20% of the voting population. Democrats take their committed 40% as do the Republicans. They are the committed 80%. Sway a majority of the other 20% (the uncommitted) and guess who wins.

Man, if this had been Slick Willie, this story would not only page front and center but the right wing would would be frothing at the mouth for hos impeachment.

My, my, how times do change?

Now, I'll just throw a little theory into the mix ofwhy the American people don't give a danged. They're scared to death that if they rock the boat that Boss Hog is gonna snatch their job away and with a SUV in the driveway (unpaid for), 2.3 kids, a $1500 month month motgage, maxed out crdit cards, they're either too danged busy to care or if they have a clue, they'te gonna keep it safe down in their tummy.
