G'day Alison,

Have you come up with anything interesting for Wednesday night yet? I know everyone in Sydney has gone on summer holidays, so I'm wondering if the next best thing might be a bit of a session somewhere (your place ... if everyone plays very quietly ... ?).

I'll PM - if you are near your computer.

Regards,

Bob Bolton

My place if everyone squeezes in very tightly..... and doesn't mind sweltering in no air-con....

I think some of the other Sydney siders are still on their way back from various festivals

I'll let you know what I can sort out... but Wed night at someones house or an understanding pub sounds like a goer

I'm back from Woodford, and I'd be interested. I'll ask Amalina too. She has an email session list.

What a pity they didn't come a day earlier! There's a session on at the Riverview in Balmain tonight. if you come up with an idea for a venue in the next few hours I'll let the Riverview sessioners know tonight as well.

Okay, the Shannon it is. I told the people at Balmain tonight, and I think some of them are coming, and Amalina has sent out a notice to the session list.

For any other Sydney folks who see this, it's the Shannon Hotel in Abercrombie St, Chippendale, from 8pm.

Have fun at the Shannon! It's a long run from Richmond, Maine, and we're probably not up for it more than every 2-3 years.

It was an good evening - most were fashionable late & there was lots of music & some singing. Locals seemed to enjoy it too, one danced & danced & complained when JennyO was singing cos she wanted to hear music. Jenny said she was singing & the frustrated dancer carried on a silent treat (shoosh, shoosh, she's singing, etc.) Other locals joined in the singing & appreciated the evening.

Bob Bolton is a professional photographer, so I didn't take my camera - neither did Bob, he's not working when he goes to a session with friends. (memo: always take camera if Bob is going to be present at a session, it's safe to leave it behind if we are attending a concert).

Fortunately FredaU had a disposable camera with her & snapped a lot & also drew a few folks (she does great portraits of people at sessions). Bill has a digital camera so Mudcat will probably end up with pics.

As a self-confessed non-wearer of T-shirts, I now have 2 - Roll'n Go & now a lovely red Mudcat t-shirt AND I will be wearing them at festivals. Not that I told a fib in my secret santa list, it's just that I rarely wear t-shirts these days & really don't like those on offer at Festivals. But the red Mudcat one is very tasteful & of course the squiggly on the front of the Roll'n'Go shirt is artistic!

yes, its late but i have crawled to my computer - it was a good session - Bill sang and played some great songs (i would have liked to have heard more) and it was nice because as the fiddles, concertinas, tin whistle, guitars etc played, a bunch of young Irish travellers came and joined us, singing along. They did Dirty Old Town with gusto - jennyo did the local version (Dirty Newtown) which is hilarious & went down very well.

thanks for coming, Bill & Lorna, it was great to meet with you and to hear your music. I hope you enjoy the land of the hobbits!

best wishes

"one danced and danced and complained when JennyO was singing cos she wanted to hear music..." LOL Sandra. It's all right - I know what you mean.

So it wasn't quite our usual singing session, as there were many tune players there as well, and all those young guys who knew the words of many of the songs - we ended up drawing quite a crowd. It was a bit difficult to get songs in, but I managed a couple, and I loved Bill's songs. I thought I'd remember their names but now I have forgotten. One was about British Rail, and the other - oh dear, does anyone else remember? I think my brain isn't back from holidays yet, and it isn't helped by the cold I picked up while at Woodford.

Anyway, it ended up a really good night, and I came away with a nice red Mudcat t-shirt and fond memories of meeting another overseas Mudcatter. It's not such a big world really when there's music to bring you together. It was great to meet you, Bill and Lorna. I hope you can stay longer another time!

Jenny

well I have just left them at the airport to head off to NZ....

Bill & Lorna as many have said before are a lovely couple... and were a delight to have staying (plus I now have a tin of Yorkshire tea living in my kitchen....

well.... after they arrived we headed to Bondi Beach, then to the Bridge and the Opera House........ then off up Sydney Harbour to Manly on one of the lovely old ferries....... nice drink in a Sydney pub... quick paddle.... and back onto the ferry for the return trip to Circular Quay...... home for a spot of dinner then off to the Shannon....

thanks to everyone who came along it was a good night....... lots of good tunes and songs.....

after that we headed back to town to Lady Macquaries Chair for a view of the bridge, opera house and city skyline by night with an almost full moon...... absolutely lovely..... had there not been a huge queue at Harry's Cafe de wheels we'd have had a pie floater too!!.... we crawled into bed about 2am!!

today after a well deserved lie in I took them to a friends house in the bush (Glenorie, Lorna in case you forgot the name)..... and had a lovely time looking at the bush scenery stretching out towards the blue Mountains...... then off to the airport again......

they had a really quick visit but as you see we fitted a lot in.....

Joybell they are looking forward to seeing you...... can you organise a kangaroo to bounce past... and a kookaburra to laugh... they haven't seen any yet? *grin*

hope to see you again soon bill & Lorna
