BS: Mornington Crescent!

Subject: BS: Mornington Crescent!
From: Edain

As I currently have no one IRL to play with I thought I'd see if anyone was up for a game. Standard Rushton rule set with double points for diagonals while in knip.

(Bent what? You may well ask!)

Who can remember the lyrics that would take you from Finchley Central to Golders Green on the Norther line? I am sure that would involve changing at Euston and going via the M word...

Or where, just down the line, did a violent hash smoker shake a chocolate machine?

Oops! Unfortunately, Phot posted while I was in the process of composing my message/move. I'm afraid I'll have to invoke the "Out of Sequence Penalty conjugations" in Section XII, and change my move to the Blue Ball in Deepcar. It messes up my diagonal though, so I don't get the double points after all...

From "Stovold's Mornington Crescent Almanac 2002". (Orion Books 2001)
(ISBN 0-75284-729-5)

"if the game refuses to shut down then several courses of action may be tried:

Advance your slappings and sacrifice Bethnal Green. North's partner will be forced to trump. Say "Mornington Crescent" whether you have prised open your laterals or not".

Subject: RE: BS: Mornington Crescent!
From: Herga Kitty

Well, actually, when this thread was kicked off by Edain, you could have got to Mornington Crescent from High Barnet direct, no bother, without playing the game. Or even (as suggested by Edain) from Morden this morning.

When last seen (about 3 hours ago), there were no trains between Finchley Central and High Barnet on account of another problem on the Northern line.

Who needs a game, when the real thing is now quite surreal?

I can do little except quote from "Stovold" again:

Checklist

Is there anyone with you who also wants to play the game?

Has the plug been inserted? If so remover it discreetly and make yourself comfortable

Has the wall been laid out properly with the funnel in place?

If none of the above problems apply then say "Westbourne Crescent" and in the ensuing argument the game will self-start. Looks to me that's what's happening here.

Guessed, am puzzled... what's the connection between the CTA and music? (You weren't thinking of the MTA --
"He may ride forever neath the streets of Boston" -- were you?)

Gray D, if you're thinking along those lines, I suggest "Daggers" (i.e. Dagenham) Station -- via the Thatcher Connection.

note for non-UK residents: "Daggers" was the nickname for Maggie Thatcher (towards the end of her "reign")
cos Dagenham is "just two stops short of Barking!"

An Eastbourne doesn't soak up moisture the way a wick does.

Surely you were jesting at not Knowing about the band formerly known as Chicago Transit Authority or was this oblique critique?

Now if Pythagorous had sliced across the circle line would he have "Cut His Arc"? thus reaching North Greenwhich in one segment (or should that be sector?)

Guessed,

Didn't know what you were talking about, so did a Google search. I've certainly heard of "Chicago" but never knew they originally called themselves "CTA" -- so I've learned somethin' today.

Meanwhile, am hoping to persuade Sven to go to Aberyst with me... (via the ferry)

I took the ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento and drove up the Mornington Peninsula via the Nepean Highway, I didn't see no crescents!

I feel aggrieved. This now means I am stranded all the way out at Galleon's Reach. Humph!
