19 Jan 04 - 07:27 PM (#1096645) Subject: Dead Links PermaThread From: Joe Offer This is an edited PermaThread™, and all messages posted here are subject to editing and deletion. This thread is intended to serve as a forum for corrections and annotations to the Mudcat Links Section. Report dead or incorrect Links Section links here, and we'll correct them and delete your report message. This thread is just for Links Section updates, not for incorrect links in the regular threads. Please don't ask to have links corrected in most thread messages. That gets a bit too burdensome. If a link in a thread is incorrect, simply post a new message in the thread with a corrected link. We will update the incorrect link if we get a chance, but we prefer not to respond to individual requests for link updates within threads. -Joe Offer- If an old link is dead, go to the Internet Wayback Machine, http://www.archive.org/ and paste in the old link. It may still work. But if the link is dead, let us know - and try to find the new URL for us. -Joe Offer- |

13 Jul 04 - 03:32 PM (#1224789) Subject: RE: Dead Links PermaThread From: Joe Offer Got all the links updated or deleted, Susan. The above is now http://www.pipers.ie/ - a very nice site. I'm disappointed that the eieio cowboy MIDI site is gone. I couldn't find a new URL anywhere, so I finally gave up and deleted the link. -Joe Offer- |

05 May 05 - 03:04 PM (#1478865) Subject: RE: Dead Links PermaThread From: Joe Offer The random links come from our Links Section. Yes, I updated the Shar link. Many companies have reserved the *.com, *.org, and *.net domain names, and possibly others. I imagine some are discovering that they don't really need *.org and *.net. -Joe Offer- |
05 May 05 - 03:20 PM (#1478872) Subject: RE: Dead Links PermaThread From: wysiwyg Checking to be sure I understand-- You mean, at some point, companies reserved domains under both .com and .net? But we have only one listing in our links, and it might be the one they gave up in favor of a .com listing? Thanks-- that will help me track down correct URLs and submit them as suggested corrections instead of probably-gone listings. I don't find these because I am specifically looking for the info from a link, BTW. I just check them sometimes when I see something interesting in the Random listing, to see what they are, and that's how I come across obsolete ones. ~Susan |

25 Nov 09 - 08:31 PM (#2773831) Subject: RE: Dead Links PermaThread From: Joe Offer Oh, what a shame. John Moulden was legendary. I take it he's in education now, and Ulstersongs is under new ownership. I wish him well. Oh - you'll find a lecture by John Moulden here (click). -Joe- |

26 Nov 09 - 10:58 AM (#2774132) Subject: RE: Dead Links PermaThread From: GUEST,Mr Red Anyone know of a website that can trawl a given page and detect broken links? I used to use one but haven't been able to find a replacement. I could use Dreanweaver but that does take time on dial-up. |
26 Nov 09 - 11:17 AM (#2774143) Subject: RE: Dead Links PermaThread From: GUEST I just found http://www.dnlook.com/brokenlinks.php and it does help. But finds more broken links than exist. I link to google.com and yahoo.com which it doesn't like. They always revert to .co.uk flavours in the UK which is a clue to the failure mode. But at least I have some warnings to deal with. |
