A great song, Raptor.
I especially like the acoustic demo version here.
(put a capo on the 2nd fret to play along with the above link)

(the bridge below is not on the above linked acoustic version, but is on the more rocked-up album version)

My Dog And Me
by John Hiatt

C (lift off & on middle finger)

         C                      F       C
Well she marked our trail up the Backbone Ridge
Am                G       F
How many times can one dog pee?
             C                         F      C
She lifts me high as an eagle when I'm on the skids
       Am               G      F
But you gotta come home eventually

(G7) F       C         G7    C
Buddy I would walk that extra mile
       F    C          G7    Am
For an extra bark and an extra smile
       F       G       Am
`Cause I never felt so free
       F       G7      C       F   C
It was just my dog and me

Then she gives me that look like she'd lay down her life
I have no doubt she would, in a minute, man
I know she'd face the bullet or she'd face the knife
Just to keep my ass from the frying pan

And now she runs up ahead to chase some deer
Then comes back to tell me that the coast is clear
Man, it's a different world I see
When it's just my dog and me

(bridge)
Am          F    C             G    G7
There's.... a.... rabbit on the run
Am      F       C                G
Man.... and.... beast and setting sun
          F             G             Am
Now who's talkin' to the birds and the trees?
          F       G7      C
Well, it's just my dog and me

Now it looks like we've been layin' tracks
From the crack of dawn to the end of day
It's always nice and easy down the Devil's Back
Man, she wouldn't have it any other way

Now it's back over that ridge, down that one last height
Before we're safe at home by the fire side
And dreamin' these dreams for free
Yeah, it's just my dog and me

Oh, I never felt so free
And it was just my dog and me

I posted chords to go with the acoustic version linked to and it's in D.

And I think you meant C#m instead of Cm above.

(except that I added the bridge from the album version, which is NOT on the version at the link)

Love the words, but.....

Ah, some clever script kiddy has disabled all button clicks in the window - so the fact that I can't get some of the graphics to show and the sound to work without clicking on something means that I can't hear the sound, nor get all the graphics to display!

Sigh!
