We won't mention age, but, suffice it to say that the world has been graced by the presence of this warm, eloquent man for 3/4 of a century. To say I'm thankful for his friendship & that of his delightful wife is surely an understatement! I hope to extend birthday greetings in person soon!

love,

Barbara

I miss you, buddy. It has been far too long since I have had the pleasure of your company, and that of that beautiful woman you are married to. But know that you are thought of often and with love.

All the best on the successful completion of the first half of your life,

Mick

I've put off writing or calling you too long and this allows me to sneak in my personal congratulations on your having achieved yet another trip around the sun. I hope you have a great day---and so many more like it !!

Dennis now has my selections for possible inclusion in a new A.T. CD and we'll be in touch when and if enough songs are decent enough quality to be included.

A question: Did you get the photo I e-mailed you of yourself in Middletown, Connecticut (with a very interesting looking fan of yours)?? If not, I can print it up and send it to you !!

Love to you and Caroline and the boys and theirs,

Art

To all of you good people -- my deepest thanks.

MMario: If I'm two days younger than your brother, by the same calculating process, I'm a month older than George Washington! Some days, by golly, I feel that I am.
In fact, though, I'm one week younger than the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., would have been, and look at what he was able to accomplish in his tragically brief span, and think how much more he would have done had he not been murdered. So let us all try to carry on his work until we at last reach his goals.
Hello, Glen! How good it is to have you here in the Mudcat stream. I saw a book recently about steamboats on your Ontario rivers, and thought again of you and of your grandfather. Hope you're still making songs as well as those fine instruments.
Ah, Mick, m'lad. How we do need to talk with you these days. You're right; it has been much too long. And Kathy: the Calvinists may never forgive us, but their loss has been the FSSGW's gain, which proves that I have actually accomplished something with my life. Thanks for the telephonic birthday song, my dear. See you at NEFFA? Suzanne has asked us to share a workshop with her that conflicts with one that you are doing, so we're trying to adjust the schedule a bit.
Jerry and Ruth: how sad that we live so close yet see you so rarely! Please help us to arrange to correct that.
And Art, old friend: Yes, I got the photo and was delighted by it. I can't imagine being unaware of the pre-Brittany charmer in the background who now graces the wall of Big Mick's den. Funny, she really looks familiar to me, and that lean character in the foreground of the shot reminds me of someone I once knew. I'm working on regaining some of that, having successfully "de-gained" the first 32 pounds of the project, courtesy of Dr. Atkins. I've enjoyed and appreciated all of the photos you are circulating by way of your new scanner, and I've meant to write and tell you so, but haven't quite found the time. Almeda, Pete, George with his pipes, Gerry with her smile, and all the rest -- good and frequently very moving memories. Thank you for them all, and keep 'em coming!
BBC: I'll see you in the coming week, and tell you how grateful I am. Hope you like the Shrimp Pecan they serve at the Golden Wok! I'll bust my diet if you'll let me have just one small bite in trade for a share of my Beef and Steamed Brocolli -- no rice. I'll read my fortune, but you'll have to eat the cookie.
Sinsull, m'luv, I wish you could be here for our great dinner getaway, too. And you, too, Allison. We're hoping to see you both at NEFFA. Hugs all around!
Dear Kat'leen: I hope all is well with you and yours. I miss the occasional letters from your adventurous kinsman, and hope he has returned safely from the Middle East. Send me an update! And when are you coming east to visit those handsome grandsons?
Sorry to have missed out on the big Seattle "gathering to recall the good old days of the early 50s," Bob. Maybe we can get there in a year that makes fewer demands on our time.
Padre: I'm so pleased that you are staying in touch via the Mudcat. Our regards to you and Gail. Please come by whenever you get up this way. We'll leave a light in the window and a kettle on the stove.
Too many of you to reply to each in kind, but know this, all of you: I am touched by your messages and very grateful to all of you. Getting old's not much fun, but it does beat the hell out of the alternative.
    Sandy

I have certainly been enjoying the collecltion of music I got from Folk Legacy--and so have my radio listeners been able to hear some wonderful musicians due to efforts by you, Sandy, and Caroline and crew! I especially am glad to get to hear and play your wonderful group, or rather gathering of friends, the Golden Ring, of these Gordon Bok, Ed Trickett, and Sara Grey have the most recognizeable names. Another performer whose songs I have been happy to hear again is Jim Ringer, whose songs are even more treasured now that he is no longer with us. These collected or "caught" songs are available to all of us due to your foresight and efforts! Thank you!

Well damn! I missed this the first time around. Now that I think about it, I've missed a lot of things the first time around.............Anyway a belated Happy Birthday Sandy! And as I know Joe approves of this birthday thread, I will not have to appease him by making sure it's different by suggesting various and insulting sexual predilections with other species. Speaking of other species, Cletus, Paw, Buford, and the Reg Boys send their......uh......thir, uh...........well whatever it is they send, they're sending it..........And whatever it is, don't handle it!

Hope it was a great day.......and a kiss to your far better half.

Hi There Sandy,
You and Caroline have made a great impact upon our lives since the early 70s when you spent time with us all in Nassau. You opened a new direction for us to follow with all those lovely songs that you taught us. Thanks for enriching our lives and you keep on doing it every time we listen to one of your Folk Legacy albums. Please give our love to Caroline, Robin and David and their families and of course you can have a big hug. Happy Belated Birthday!

Delighted to discover that Don and June are Mudcatters! Those were the glory days, weren't they? Wish we could visit you in Brisbane as easily. Please be sure to keep us on your mailing list.
See you at NEFFA, Carly, for sure. Let's encourage other 'Catters to show up, as well.
Haven't seen you for awhile, Dan. I hear the new Johnson Girls CD is coming along nicely. Jolly good show! We're looking forward to adding it to our catalog.
Thanks for keeping me posted, Hrothgar, on the recovery of our mutual friend.
Caroline and I hope to see you on your next visit, Roy.
And a grateful thanks to 'Spaw for such an unusually dignified message. Give my best to all them others and tell 'em to behave theirownselves, not that such a reminder will ever produce positive results.
Karen K spent the weekend here with us, although she buried herself in the library most of the time, doing her research, so we only saw her at a few meals. That kind of dedication is to be admired. Someday, we'll all benefit from the work she is doing right now, updating the late Florence Bruning's index of published folk songs. What a major undertaking!
And to all the rest of you, thanks and thanks again. Now let's let this thread pass into well-deserved oblivion. I hardly need to be reminded of how bloody old I am!
    Stay well, y'all!
    Sandy
