I ran across this while searching for the western swing song TATER PIE, as recorded by Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. I'm not sure how closely related the following song is, but there seem to be so many versions of it, it probably deserves its own thread.

TATER PIE (blues version)

...tol' you, babe. [Let's?] understan',
Gimme my pie in my ol' same ol' pan.
I gotta have some of it. Yes, I want some of it.
You gotta gimme some of it afore you give it all away.

SPOKEN: Guitar, what you said?

I done tol' you, babe. I ain't gon' [tell you again?]...

[Above as sung by Sonny Terry on "Sonny is King," originally released as an LP 1962, re-released as a CD 1991. That seems to be the same song as the following, copied from http://dragon.unideb.hu/~klamp/blues/lyrics/blind.boy.fuller/i_want_some.html. (I have made some corrections.)]

I WANT SOME OF YOUR PIE
Fulton Allen a.k.a. Blind Boy Fuller

Says, I'm not jokin' an' I'm gonna tell you no lie,
I want to eat your custard pie.

CHORUS: You got to give me some of it, (3x)
'Fore you give it all away.

I'm not braggin', but it's understood,
Everything I do, I try to do it good. CHORUS

Now, your custard pie looks good an' nice.
When you cut it, please save me a slice. CHORUS

Says, I don't care if you live 'cross the street,
When you cut that pie, please save me a piece. CHORUS

Oh, it's good for a man eighty-three,
You know good and well it's good enough for me. CHORUS

[I found the following additional verse in a live recorded performance by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, where it is called CUSTARD PIE.]

Well, she bakes her pie with her damper turned down.
She got the best pie in this New York town.
Please give me some of it. Beggin' for some of it.
Well, I want some of it 'fore you give it all away.

[Under the title CUSTARD PIE it has also been recorded by Led Zeppelin and by John Hammond.]

[A jazz and/or funk version of TATER PIE also exists. It has been recorded by Ahmad Jamal, and by Deep Banana Blackout.]

Click here for the thread about the (possibly unrelated) western swing song called TATER PIE.

The Zeppelin version, although excellent,is credited to Page and Plant, typically.
