BS: Super Bowl Predictions

Here's mine:

The commercials will be more interesting than the game.

The cheerleaders will have better moves than the running backs.

The winners will thank God for giving them the victory (as if the Almighty is interested in north American sporting events).

and,

Some idiot reporter will stick a microphone in the face of the losing coach and ask him a totally inane question like, "How does it feel to lose the Super Bowl, coach?"

Go Vikings,

Freightdawg

I will drink beer and say, "I still prefer College football."

(or even better, Olympic hockey)

Now, what teams are playing?

Well danged. Looks like I ain't too late to get a prediction in. If Steven Davis starts and finishes the game, then Carolina wins 'cause the Panthers will run it down the Pats throats...

I understand that the story that the battered womens' shelters across the US have their day of maximum demand for help, every year, the night of Super Sunday - after every guy who got drunk while watching his team lose takes his frustration out on his wife or girlfriend at once - is an urban legend. It's almost a shame, in a weird way, that it isn't true, since it seems so likely that it would be thus....

Peter.

I predict it gonna get pretty drunk out that night!

Johnny: New England Patriots VS Carolina Panthers

Should be a good game!

No offfence to anyone but I find that most people that hate football are the ones who don't understand how it's played. And would rather knock it than admit that they don't get it!

Oh, I understand it and don't hate it, just don't care. Better things to do with my life. Who the hell are the Carolina Panthers, anyway?

Subject: RE: BS: Super Bowl Predictions

Okay, Bobert was the first to stick out his chin for his team, so if Carolina wins everyone owes Bobert a beer.

As previously noted, I'm personally a Vikings fan, so every year at this time I get to sit around and wonder what it would be like to have my team win the big one. Not quite as bad as being a Red Sox or Cubbies fan, but we are in the circle.

As far as prognostication goes, I had Green Bay and Tennessee, so that tells you what kind of fortune teller I am.

C'mon Sorcha - better things to do for a three hour stretch on a late winter Sunday evening??

Cheers everyone, and woof, woof.

No. I understand how it's played. In fact, I don't hate the game per se, just the way that television has turned it into a pseudo-religion so they can sell advertising time. Somebody wanna choose up sides for a game of touch and I'm all for it.

I predict that the combined salaries of the two teams would fund a medium-sized trauma hospital for a full year, except for the physicians' salaries, and that the money wasted by advertisers would pay for those.

You're jumping to conclusions. My disenchantment with football started when a boy from my high school died on the field.

Nah, I'm more a Steven Davis fan than a fan of Carolina. See, he played fir my beloved Washington Redskins before going to Carolina.

Spawzer:

Hmmmmmmm? Seems you lost interest in football about the same time Art the Fart moved the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore. I agree with you. The old Cleveland Browns were my second favorite team and I'm still bummed about what went down...

Hey, Spaw — with your feline connection, I'd have bet you'd be a Panthers fan...

I probably won't watch the game, but being from North Carolina I'll be sorta pulling or the Panthers.

Bobert — nice to hear there are others who lament the passing of the Browns. They were my favorite team from back in the '50s when Jim Brown was running fullback. Lord, what a powerhouse he was!

cheers,

david

some coach once said that successful coaching in football was a very awkward thing..."You have to be smart enough to make it all work, and dumb enough to think it's all worthwhile."

Why do so many people hate T.V. as a giant waste of thier valuable time yet spend Hours on the internet chatting with people they don't care about?

If time is so valuable go spend it on something nice as opposed to wasting it telling me that the sport I like is not a good use of time!

Subject: It's About Free Speech

Watch the ad that CBS refuses to air, and join our campaign. Just click on the image below.

Then help keep the momentum growing:
1. Spread the word. Share the ad with your friends and family.
2. Call in. Tell CBS headquarters what you think.
3. Post it. Put a banner or button on your website.
4. Get published. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper.

Dear MoveOn member,
Over the last four days, something incredible has happened. CBS has received over 340,000 emails and phone calls asking it to stop its censorship. Clearly a huge number of us believe that CBS's refusal to run our Voter Fund ad, while allowing the Bush White House to run an advocacy ad of its own, is just plain wrong.

Columnists and editorial pages are writing about it. And on Monday, FCC commissioner Michael Copps issued a statement on it. These folks understand that this issue isn't just about our Voter Fund's ad -- an ad by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals was censored as well. At heart, it's about free speech. Huge companies like CBS that control access to the publicly owned airwaves have to air opposing points of view.

CBS still refuses to run "Child's Pay." But together, we can increase the pressure on CBS. And through the power of the Internet, we can make sure that millions of people see the ad and learn about the controversy. As a first step, forward this email or the original message attached below to your friends. Ask them to check out the ad at:

Hate the Pats (and my family's from Boston!)
Love the Panthers, especially super-cute quarterback - reminds me of
Elway, the way he never gives up and can pull it out in the 4th -
if Carolina wins, Bobert, will you share the beer?
