It appears that earwigs are now extinct. No more poking sticks down holes and collecting them in jam jars - why ?

They've all moved to Wigan, listen closely and you can ear them.

INTERESTING FACTS: Some tunnel as deeply as six feet into the ground to escape the cold. The name earwig is from a European superstition that these insects entered the ears of a sleeping person and bored into the brain.

They've all emigrated to the Northeast U.S.- I'm infested with 'em in July & August.

I'd be happy to return 'em... just give me a shipping address. Is C.O.D. ok?

Its warmer than most places in Canada here and the snowdrops haven't begun to bloom yet, but I found one drowned in the dogs water dish a couple of days ago, so they are still around in the PNW.

As we men get older, it is a fact that many become bald and either need to deal with baldness by ignoring it or perhaps a wig. However, the hair growing on our ears increases, thus I really see a very small market for earwigs.........but that's just me I do have a line of eyebrow toupee's that will soon hit the market

Never use 'em myself. My head's bald, so why should my ears be any better off?

They are traipsing thru my house, by summer a river of dark moving shapes as night comes on. They crawl into my bed, they fill up the tub, they fall out of books. Outside there are hundreds on the windows aftr dark, yet more are mowing down all the garden veg. shoots as they appear above ground, ruining the centers of lettuce, cabbage and other plants, gnawing into carrots. Oh....I hate earwigs! Anybody have any good non-pesticide ways of getting rid of them. Hand-picking, even night collections in tuna cans, etc. are only reasonable when numbers in the hundreds, not thousands. Sprinkling liberal amounts of diatomaceous earth about works pretty well, but only until the next spring rain....

They all moved to Hillsborough, North Carolina, where they will soon be chewing holes in the first of my daffodils (they don't know daffodils are not bothered by any pests.)

We see earwigs occasionally, but the insect we find most annoying because of the sheer numbers of them are pill bugs. Potato bugs. Roly polies. Whatever you want to call them, we got lots.
