BS: Be our next Cultural Ambassador!

I am a music teacher at Symonds Elementary School in Keene, New Hampshire, USA. Every year or so we invite someone from another country to spend the school year with host families, come to school each day and spend part of each day in classrooms teaching about the culture, history, language, geography, etc. from his/her home.

We were supposed to have a young woman from China this year but she got sick and chose not to come. So we're now in the process of looking for someone for the scbool year 2004/05, beginning next September or October.

This is not a paying job, but a great one for experience in an American school. We do offer some pocket money and take care of basic needs and expenses. All room and board are included, and lots of fringe benefits come with the territory- gifts, vacations with host families, to name a few.
We also pay for your airline tickets.

We've had people from China, Japan, Russia, Ecuador, Kenya, Turkey and the Philippines. We would love to have a European visitor. We never go in search of a particular country, but find that our ambassadors find us, somehow.

Another payoff- I'm the staff member in charge of making your school day wonderful! You would share my classroom (with your own desk and computer) and would get to spend part of each school day with ME!

It's ideal for someone finishing college or university, who loves children, is thinking about being a teacher, and needs a year to figure things out.

PM me for more info. Maybe you know just the person who would be ideal. Maybe you are the one!

I know my country is looking pretty bad in the eyes of the world right now. This is your chance to find out how the ordinary people really feel- at least in my little corner of the world!

Allison, they can specifically share music, too, right? If so you might get more interest if we move this up top.:-) It sounds like a wonderful program!

Well, if you're going to have an Ozzie, what about offering the job to Sir Les Patterson (I don't think he's related to Micca) - he's got a lot of experience as a cultural attache. I'm sure that he'd come for a few cases of wine !

Kat's right- getting a folkie would be wonderful! Lots of opportunities to share music!

Freda, I'll reply to your PM. I'm delighted that you are interested!
(I just want you to think very carefully about what it would mean to come to New England in September and go home in June....)

Big snowstorm coming tonight!!
