Hi,

The day job is sending me to Derbyshire in February, the week after Valentines day. I will be there over night on either the Monday or the Tuesday, I have the choice.

I have tried searching Goggle to find any folk clubs/sessions but I can't find anything for those days

I will be staying in the Foston, Uttoxeter, Burton area, can anyone help

As I was going to Derby, all on a market day
I spied the biggest ram sir that ever was fed on hay.

Don't bother going. The Jacobites got as far as there and turned back

It's rather hard to get current information. I do list some clubs and sessions in Derbyshire at http://www.folk-network.com/, but my remit doesn't really extend beyond Matlock and Buxton. I can't help directly with Derby, and there don't seem to be any useful internet resources; Martin Nail hasn't found any, either. The Peasmouldia folk club used to have a web presence, but that has disappeared; I expect it went west when Doug Porter stopped issuing Folk On. The East Midlands Folk Pages appear to be completely empty.

Not very promising, but Derbyshire can be like that. We still remember the Secret Folk Festival they had one year in Chesterfield. Mind you, there must be somebody round here who lives in Derby... presumably...

Listen to Folkwaves from Radio Derby - Monday evening 7pm - 9pm. You can hear it on the web, but only in real time. They give out lots of information and contact numbers. You could try emailing them - folkwaves@bbc.co.uk

I have found one listed for the Irish Centre, Becket Street Derby on Tuesdays. Don't know if it'still going.

The info came from this site under the Derbyshire Sessions section but the site has not been updated since April 2003.

Don't forget the Mudcat gathering in Yorkshire - not a million miles away - on the Valentine's weekend.
