Also... I was wondering what songs 'She's a troublemaker' and 'Little Darlin' are parodies of?

Themselves. They were real songs of the time. Joan just did them for fun. yours, Peter T.

Mr. Search Engine says it was Joan Baez who did these songs on Very Early Joan. I don't know "Troublemaker." Anybody got lyrics?

Yeah, that's where I heard they were parodies - LH's post. And Little Darlin' sounds Elvis-parody-ish.

To repeat, they are not parodies. She sings them parodically (in that "oh, I am not a folkie, but a real chick who listens to pop radio" style. She does them well, sort of in a Speedy Gonzalez kind of voice).

yours,

Peter T.

From: Jim Dixon

Copied from http://www.lyricsxp.com/lyrics/l/little_darlin_the_diamonds.html:

LITTLE DARLIN'
The Diamonds

Written by Maurice Williams, lead singer of The Gladiolas, whose version made the Top 50 on the R&B charts. Name changed to Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs, and they charted the classic "Stay" at #1 in 1960.

Peaked at # 2 in 1957. The Diamonds' all-time biggest hit, featuring lead singer Dave Somerville (with Bill Reed doing the bass vocal narration). Technically, this could be considered one of the very first "rap" songs, since it features hip narration over the middle break of the song. Cover version of the Gladiolas' 1957 Top 50 R&B hit. This pop version also made the Top 5 on the R&B charts.

Eye, yi-eye-eye-eye
Yi-eye-eye-eye
Ya-ya-ya-ahh

Little darlin', oh, little darlin'
Oh-oh-oh where a-are you?
My love-a, I was wrong-a (la-la-la-la-la-la)
To-oo try to lo-ove two
A-hoopa, a-hoopa, hoopa
Kno-ow well-a that my love-a (la-la-la-la-la-la)
Wa-as just fo-or you, oh only-ee-ee-ee you

SPOKEN: My darlin', I NEED you (la-la-la-la-la-la) to call my own and NEVER do wrong. To hold in mine your little hand (la-la-la-la-la-la). I'll know too soon that ALL is so grand. Please, hold my hand.

My dear-a I-I was wrong-a
To-oo try to lo-ove two
A-hoopa, a-hoopa, hoopa
Know well that my love-a (la-la-la-la-la-la)
Wa-as just for you, oh only-ee-ee-ee you

SHE'S A TROUBLE MAKER was written by Jerry Ragovoy and Van McCoy in the 1960's. I was unable to find complete lyrics, but I transcribed this from a sound sample found at Barnes & Noble of The Majors, from their album, "A Golden Classics Edition," 1991.

So watch out! She's a troublemaker.
Watch out! She's a heartbreaker.
She'll break your heart,
Tear it apart.
She's just out to see how many love affairs she can break up,
So if she tells you to quit your girl, you better wake up.

Songs like that need no parody, and no parody need apply! :>)

Speaking of Joan Baez parodies, has anyone heard the parody OF Joan Baez done by National Lampoon? It was a song called "Pull The Triggers". The singers whose name I can't remember, sounded unbeleivably like Joan Baez. But the words...!!
