04 Feb 04 - 05:03 AM (#1108902) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Soap & Water Blues From: Stewie With minor changes, that's reasonably close to the Washboard Sam version I have. Sam has her shaped like a 'frog' though in the first line. Is this a complementary song to the 'Darn Good Girl For the Shape's She's In' in the white tradition? The attribution on the Washboard Sam is to him (Robert Brown). --Stewie. |
04 Feb 04 - 09:31 AM (#1109075) Subject: Lyr Add: SOAP AND WATER BLUES (Washboard Sam) From: Roger the Skiffler Thanks, guys, Washboard Sam version follows: SOAP AND WATER BLUES (Robert Brown, "Washboard Sam") 1. Now I've got a gal, shaped like a frog. Her voice remind me of an old bulldog. Her hair looks just like a chinchilli coat, And, man, if you get close up to that woman, she smells like a goat. CHORUS: She got B.O. She keeps B.O. all the time. And she thinks soap and water, Ooh, Lord, Lord, is a doggone crime. 2. Her ears are so long, her nose is so flat, Her head is so big, she can't even wear a hat. Her dogs (legs) is bowed, and she got one eye. Man, she look like a wreck that happened last July. CHORUS: Man, ain't she ugly? She got B.O. all the time. Man, that woman thinks soap and water, Man, is a doggone crime. 3. She must to have been her mother's only child. She should have been a gorilla, 'cause she sure is wild. She got ways like a monkey, sly as a fox. She should have been on some chain gang, man, breaking up rocks. CHORUS: Man, ain't she ugly? And she keeps B.O. all the time. Man, that woman thinks soap and water, Ooh, Lord, Lord, is a doggone crime. 4. Her legs look like needles and she ain't got no chin. She's a beautiful woman – for the shape she's in. Her feets look like wings, way out on a limb. That's just why her mother put her off on him. CHORUS: Man, ain't she ugly? And she keeps B.O. all the time. Man, she thinks soap and water, Hoo, Lord, Lord, is a doggone crime. Some lines worthy of Les Dawson (or Les Barker): "A beautiful woman for the shape she's in" "Looks like a wreck that happened last July". RtS (voice like a bulldog) |
