Obviously, since the terrorists have been denied access to their preferred targets like airliners, skyscrapers and bridges, they've just lowered their sights and are blowing up public toilets! Just imagine the psychological effect! People away from home and afraid to use a public facility. Massive numbers of automobile accidents caused by drivers trying to pee in an empty springwater bottle while driving at 75 MPH. A pandemic of constipation from people holding it 'til they get home only to find that compaction has set in. Jails filled beyond capacity with people arrested for indecent exposure while peeing in gutters. Think I'll go stock up on Fleet enemas before the drugstore runs out. |

From: GUEST,ClaireBear What scares me is that I RECOGNIZE that superloo -- it's across from the bus terminal in Hanley, and it's the only automated convenience in the UK I've actually used (In 2002 on my last UK trip, so I'm not the guilty party). How creepy is that? |

And "it could have been distressing for anyone in there"??? Well no kidding - if it'll take the roof off the loo, it's not going to do your bum much good, is it?! Graham. |

05 Feb 04 - 07:26 PM (#1110325) Subject: RE: BS: Exploding Convenience : WMD found ? From: Shanghaiceltic Exploding loo's were common in the older conventional submarines. I was on the old Porpoise and Oberon class and the loo ( known as a head in the RN) had to be flushed to sea using a complex series of operations where you closed the lid, and operated a number of valves, this forced water at pressure into the bowl, forcing the contents overboard via a one way valve. We used to wait in anticipation as a new trainee used the heads for the first time dived. You would often hear them fumbling with the valves and getting it wrong, this was followed by a muffled whumpf and a cry of 'Oh shit' as the unlucky depositor got his own back. Needless to say the unlucky person had few people who would stand near him as he made his way to change clothes. |

I never thought to blame it on terrorists, but I suppose anything's possible. |

06 Feb 04 - 04:50 AM (#1110564) Subject: RE: BS: Exploding Convenience : WMD found ? From: Dave Bryant A friend of mine was caught short in a town centre and decided to use a convenient Superloo. It was a warm Saturday afternoon and he'd had quite a few pints of beer. He deposited his coin, the door opened and he went inside, closed the door, and got down to the business. It was very comfortable with soothing muzac so he soon snoozed off. Unfortunately for my friend, as a safety feature to avoid the "Three Old Ladies" syndrome", Superloo doors reopen automatically after a fixed period of time. He was therefore revealed, sitting on the loo, fast asleep, with his pants and jeans round his ankles, in the middle of a crowded shopping centre. What was worse, was that he pressed the "finish" button, the doors closed again - with him still inside and the machine went through it's clean-up phase where it sprays sweetly disinfected water all over the inside. Still he smelt much better than usual when he finally emerged dripping and embarassed. |

06 Feb 04 - 04:55 AM (#1110567) Subject: RE: BS: Exploding Convenience : WMD found ? From: Liz the Squeak I'm betting it was Spaw letting one off in there... and I don't mean a stick of dynamite! I've used them but only when desperation (or pregnancy) demanded. The only good thing about them is that there is plenty of elbow room (unlike most public cubicles), but there is always the feeling that the doors will open at the wrong moment or that the passing public outside can hear every fart, grunt and sigh of relief! He had staggered off somewhere. There was a ditch full of water, and we were afraid he'd fallen in. Then we passed a portable sanitation unit, and heard a wretch retching. We knew we'd found him. What he didn't know was that he hadn't locked the door. The person who opened it got caught in a blast of barf. |

07 Feb 04 - 01:15 AM (#1111219) Subject: RE: BS: Exploding Convenience : WMD found ? From: rangeroger When I was a Ranger at Lake Morena County Park in San Diego Calif., we had a problem with sanitation facilities when the lake water levels rose to the edge of the campground. A lot of port-potties were brought in which we had to pump out (3 times daily on busy weekends. A provider of alternate sewage systems dnated a toilet to us in the hopes that the Parks department would buy a bunch of them. The toilets were propane powered, in that there was a propane burner that reduced the ofending material to ash, which was then flushed with avery small amount of water into tank which could be emptied. As in the submarine example, there was a specific procedure to be followed to ensure everything went well. This was posted in writing on the inside walls of the privy. Needless to say, we found out there was a problem when a campground guest came into the office, covered with shit and singed clothing. He told us that he really wanted to clean himself up, but thought we should see what he looked like to make his complaint.> We determined that he had not followed the correct procedure, but we locked the "propane powered privy" up, and asked the vendor to take it away. rr |
