16 Feb 04 - 11:01 AM (#1116998) Subject: RE: a ram sam sam From: ReeBop I learned this with both "ramm samm samm" and "Pizza Hut" We would do it at the table (like in the cafeteria at lunchtime) with ourhands. Like this: a - fists on table, thumbs up ramm - thumbs on table samm: index and middle fingers on table samm: index and pinkie fingers on table REPEAT keep going through the goolies same beat A Rafi - life hands up together and beat them down on "fi" x2 then back to the fingers thing to the end... then we would do it again getting faster and faster until our hands hurt...it was also really fun to get the opposite sides of the tables to do each part at a different time like a round. Drove the lunch ladies nuts. RB |

28 Feb 05 - 11:01 PM (#1423529) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Ram Sam Sam (from Rolf Harris) From: Jim Dixon Rolf Harris did indeed record A RAM SAM SAM. It's on "Best of Rolf Harris," Disky CD #85633, 2001. There's a sound sample at allmusic. He does seem to be singing it as a round, either by overdubbing his own voice, or with a background chorus--I can't tell. |

14 Aug 08 - 07:19 PM (#2414125) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Ram Sam Sam (from Rolf Harris) From: GUEST,Jonathan It is my belief that the young children's song "Ram Sam Sam" is Hebrew having originated in the early days of the State of Israel in kindergartens or youth groups. My evidence is only that I heard of people who first learned it in Israel and I think I see a correspondance between the song-actions used and the approximate meaning of the words assumed to be infant versions of Hebrew words. It goes with the actions: Ram (Height) -lift hands high Sam (Put) -place hands down Sam (Put) -place hands down Gooli-Gooli-Gooli_Gooli (from Hebrew Galgel or gilgool meaning to roll or circle) - circle the hands around one another I really like the extra bit Rolf Harris added on the end - I had his Best of Rolf Harris album, but it seems to have gone astray so thanks for the poster of the Rolf Harris original lyrics. A ram sam summertime and sing with us a song, about the brotherhood of everybody underneath the sun If you come sam summertime and sing with us a song, Understanding one another can be fun fun fun. 05 Sep 09 - 06:07 PM (#2717030) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Ram Sam Sam (from Rolf Harris) From: GUEST,bubbles Ging Gang Gooli was created by Robert Baden Powell for the Boy Scouts for their World Jamboree. The idea behind it is that the words mean nothing so it didn't matter what language you spoke, you could still sing this song. A Ram Sam Sam: I have heard that this song was an African prayer (I'm guessing this is wrong if it is a Moroccan folk song)... I am wondering if anyone knows how it is meant to be sung? We used to sing it fast and silly with actions, but after we heard it was meant to be a prayer we started singing it slowly and actually singing it, versus chanting. Thanks |

16 Dec 11 - 04:50 PM (#3275072) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: A Ram Sam Sam (from Rolf Harris) From: GUEST,australia2 I've always loved that song in Rolph's rendition. Somewhere I have it on an old audio cassette. They are very appropriate words for the world now. Googling 'A Rum Sum Sum' brings up lots of hits for the basic 'chant' with actions - for kiddies. I don't know who wrote the thought provoking lyrics as written above. 'Learn the other fellas folk songs ..' etc. Laurie. Melbourne, Australia. |
