It's a parody of Stan Rodger's 1984 song, Barrett's Privateers. Google has failed me on this one. The single link that Google found was to a 2004 message on www.mudcat.org. I've tried contacting the author of that message, but to no avail. The only thing that the link had was the text of the chorus used in the parody: "Gotterdammerung, I was told, the Nibelung made a ring of gold, You'll feel the Fire, Shed some tears, when the Valkyries ride in their steel Braziers, and the voice of Siegfried fills your ears!" Any assistance you could provide would be gratefully accepted. |

Mary was quite insistent that she did not wish the words to be placed online, but was happy for them to be passed from person to person on a one-to-one basis: she wanted it to be spread "in the wild". I am fortunate to have a copy which she sent me in the form of an illuminated scroll. I remember Mary singing it for Nathan Rogers who rather liked it. For some reason "brassière" was Americanized to sound like "braZEER". At least that was the proper way of saying it when I was younger, and the pedants frowned on "bra". |
