20 Feb 04 - 05:02 PM (#1120034) Subject: RE: Official: Drumming is good for you! From: Clinton Hammond I suspect you could achieve the same results with any kind of 'play time' introduced into the work place... Drumming... finger painting... even a story time... LOL Some people need to be told to let thier hair down from time to time... :-) |

From: AllisonA(Animaterra) I sort of agree, Clinton, but I've done drumming, bookbinding, "new games", origami, "ice breakers", etc with my staff and other groups, and drumming is by far the most exhilarating and satisfying activity that can be learned quickly- instantaneously, in fact! 20 Feb 04 - 06:29 PM (#1120080) Subject: RE: Official: Drumming is good for you! From: McGrath of Harlow It's all right so long as you're doing the drumming. I suspect if there were any people there in the home who for any reason weren't involved - stuck in bed, or trying to read, or do some paper work, for exanple - they'd have a different take on it. |

21 Feb 04 - 08:16 AM (#1120353) Subject: RE: Official: Drumming is good for you! From: JennyO I've known this for a long time. I run drumming workshops, and the effect on the participants at the end always seems to be increased energy and a feeling of well-being. The last time I did one, at a festival, a lot of people asked me to put another one on the next day. We found a space in the program and a spare room, and off we went again! Jenny |

I have a workout on my Latin percussion setup for at least 20 minutes every day and it definitely is a stress reliever. Thank goodness my neighbour is tolerant and hard of hearing! Peace moo |

21 Feb 04 - 11:53 AM (#1120462) Subject: RE: Official: Drumming is good for you! From: open mike it was probably the RESIDENTS more than the staff (or at least as much as the staff) that could have benefitted from drumming...to ease the boredom of sitting around day after day...24 hours a day while the staff is probably there for 8....now there is a story i would like to see-- music therapy offered to the poeple who LIVE in the place...I can imagine the residents thinking: we pay these people to take care of us and they are playing bongos? |
