21 Feb 04 - 10:29 PM (#1120822) Subject: BS: Going to Seattle.... From: Rapparee Monday afternoon my wife and I are flying to Seattle -- I'm going to a meeting there Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, returning Friday. Anything happening near the Convention Center or the Red Lion on 5th Avenue? (I won't have a car, and Pat's off to quilt shops and museums during the day.) |

22 Feb 04 - 02:09 AM (#1120903) Subject: RE: BS: Going to Seattle.... From: michaelr I was there last week myself, and was astonished to find that Seattle has more Irish pubs than San Francisco. Don't know the town enough to have an idea where you're staying, but Pike Place Market is worth a look, and so is The Jimi Hendrix Museum. Plus, I saw the infamous Edgewater Inn ("Mud...sh-sh-shaaark...") Cheers, Michael |

Geez, all this to get a good cup of coffee! 8-) I'm actually looking forward to this, even though next week is going to be a killer (e.g., I'm teaching a class in something I haven't yet been able to do). |

22 Feb 04 - 10:43 AM (#1121060) Subject: RE: BS: Going to Seattle.... From: Stilly River Sage Coeur D'Alene will work better if you're searching on Alexie. But that's on the other side of the state, up against Idaho, not in downtown Seattle. There are fine Indian Arts available in the south end of the Pike Street Market at the Raven shop, tucked in behind the Market Spice Tea shop on the top level. You can find some very nice carvings and many other Indian arts in there. (Art made for the commercial art market). SRS |

22 Feb 04 - 06:38 PM (#1121385) Subject: RE: BS: Going to Seattle.... From: Stilly River Sage When I offered my quip about Alexie being from the eastern part of the state I assumed he was referred to in passing. Then I began to wonder if he was in Seattle for some reason. But the link above doesn't show him there--have I missed a post or a link somewhere? Is he appearing in Seattle? (I do like the link on his page to the ALA poster of him. It's a very nice one!) SRS |

23 Feb 04 - 12:15 AM (#1121542) Subject: RE: BS: Going to Seattle.... From: Stilly River Sage Amergin, you're right. I was thinking of Alexie's home area, his family is from Spokane and Coeur D'Alene, when I named the region. He lived in Spokane most of his life (does he live in Seattle now?). |
