BS: Thought for the Day - 29 Feb. 04

I used to really enjoy starting my day out with one of PeterT's Thought for the Day threads, and some of my own on the weekends. This morning feels like a good day for such.

Here it is the day which makes this a Leap Year. We woke to a skiff of snow covering the light brown, cracked earth which is streaked white with alkali. I am reminded of the old Westerns with towns named Alkali Flats, impossibly dry except at the saloon. Still someone managed to get stuck in quicksand somewhere only to be rescued in the nick of time.

There is a stillness across the land, this morning. It is not particularly early as I've heard the lonesome-like whoroo, whoroo of the mourning doves and a few brave chirps of robins. Tiny bits of green stand up tall, pushing the snow aside as if to say, "A declaration of Spring is mine and I shall deem it so!"

It's a promise, this day. A last day of a supposed wintery month before we hear from March and, more certain signs of Spring. So a new twist on an old adage: Spring Hopes Eternal! or, even Spring Hopes, Eternal" **bg**

Have a spring-filled day!

thought for the day-A1- re:Spring (not nearly so poetic as kat's)

Spring comes in its own good time....last year, late in March, we went to West Virginia for a music weekend with some friends in 'Springlike' weather...on Sunday it snowed 12-14 inches on us. We will try again in several weeks....

Still, after one of the most continuously cold winters I can remember here, it is good to see March and 'probable' improvement on the way.

It was the coldest January on record here. I'm betting it will go down as one of the driest Febs. And yesterday I saw my first robin of spring- unheard of in these parts (NH USA)!

Today it touched 50 F- men were shopping in shorts!

Kat, great mantry- Spring hopes eternal!

I checked the hatched, matched and dispatched column. I ain't in it. That's a good sign. It is warm here (5 degrees ABOVE zero) and the snow is melting. Haven't responded to a fire in over a month and no one was killed on the roads near here. My students are smiling lots and I don't think anyone's mad at me. Life is good.

The search for Robins is on and the Mud season is round the corner after a balmy day in the upper 40's here in Good Ole Maine.
Yes Indeed Kat Darlin, Spring Hopes, Eternal.... lol
Marching into March with..a... Spring in my step:>)
Blessings to all

My mom lives in Washington (the state), and when I called her the other night from the frosty state of Maine, she put the phone on speaker and stuck the unit out the window so I could hear the frogs. That's MY sure sign of spring! Can't wait to hear the peepers here.

It got close to 70 today, and it was the first weekend my new sweetie and I tried to spend with all 3 of our kids - went pretty well! And what a beautiful day it was! And we remembered how rare Leap Day '00 was (once every 400 years) and felt, I guess, honored. Good TftD, thanks, Kat.

Isn't it called Sarah Hawker's day in the US? Women popping the question and all that.

I teased Joy about it and she kept her distance. Oh well, keep you posted in four years.

Snow? What the hell is snow?
The cajun thermometer don't function below 50 F.
The new green is replacing the old green that is still on the trees.
Mardi Gras is come and gone but the warmth is still here. I think it's about 74 here today with a light breeze and plenty of sunshine. The snakes and gators are already out. Haven't seen any armadillos yet (they burrow down and it sometimes takes them awhile to wake up).
Ya'll can come on down and defrost awhile if you'd like. We'll fill you up with gumbo, jambalaya, crawdad etouffe. We'll entertain you with some zydeco and dixie jazz! We'll take you down to Bourbon Street and show you things even your Momma didn't know to warn you about. Then we'll put you to sleep on a paddle wheeler slapping the old muddy like a heartbeat! New Orleans!

Whoo Boy! Dat's some good!
