04 Mar 04 - 12:18 PM (#1129146) Subject: Hathaway ukelele - any info?? From: GUEST A friend of mine has been offered the chance to buy a Hathaway ukelele. He doesn't own a computer and has asked me to search the internet for any info on this make of ukelele, which he has never come across before. Unfortunately I can't find anything, despite various searches, under Hathaway, Ukelele, Hathaway+ukelele. Does anyone know anything about this make of ukelele or can tell me where to search? It must be a pretty good make as the asking price is over £400.... any info gratefully received. Arnie |

04 Mar 04 - 05:32 PM (#1129327) Subject: RE: Hathaway ukelele - any info?? From: Q (Frank Staplin) A decent Kamaka 'ukulele starts at around $500 US and can run $1000 US for a tenor, so £400 not high for a really good instrument. An Eckhaus runs $600-800. Hohners run $300 plus. Can't find 'Hathaway," however, so sounds like the seller is fishing for top dollar on an unknown. For good ones see See Kamaka 'ukulele A local music store suggested that one of the string players named Hathaway might have had an instrument built for him, but this seems doubtful. Nothing in their catalogues about Hathaway 'ukulele or other stringed instruments. A Terry Hathaway had a musical instrument store in California about 25 years ago, but can't connect stringed instruments to him. |

04 Mar 04 - 07:14 PM (#1129403) Subject: RE: Hathaway ukelele - any info?? From: Richard Bridge I think that will be Paul Hathaway of east London. Makes possibly the best sounding mandolins in the UK - but very plain, and not showoff quality of finish, as far as I ahve seen. Some people I know do not like his mandolins, but I think they sound wholly wonderful. I one played a guitar he had made... It looked like a 12 year old had made it from a kit, was horrid to play and sounded like dogshit. What his ukes are like are anyone's guess. |

Note the spelling of his name! I owned one of his octave mandolas for quite a while. True, a plain instrument but with excellent tone. I only sold it because I was offered a Terry Docherty instrument and the Hathway is now happily played by a friend of mine. Hope this helps, Peace moo |

01 Dec 07 - 08:24 PM (#2206557) Subject: RE: Hathaway ukelele - any info?? From: GUEST,Paul Hathway Soprano Ukulele User Hi There Paul Hathway would most probably be the maker of the Ukulele in question. I use one in a West End show eight times a week and it is a peach of an instrument. You would be hard pressed to find better, I know because I have tried. I'm not sure that he makes them any more so if you get the chance to buy one it would probably be well worth it. |
