Waltzing Matilda, Scottish Tune

I caught the very end of a programme on the radio that seemed to state that the common tune for Waltzing Matilda was taken from an older Scottish song.

Can anyone shed any light on the original song.

Sorry if this is common knowledge, couldn't find anything on it.

Duncan

If you put "Waltzing Matilda" in the search box above, you will find This Thread, which has loads of information.

Much the same information tends to get repeated each time someone starts a new thread on the song. Among earlier discussions, these two probably contain most on the development of the tune:

Tune Req: Thou Bonnie Wood of Craigielee

Craigielee/Waltzing Matilda

Duncan - no apologies needed. From your response it appears you *DID* search - but "search and ye shall find" unfortunately doesn't always apply. It is nice to know that people try rather then just come in expecting someone else to search for them.
