Have any of you accordion enthusiasts been to the American Accordionist Association convention? I know that there is one coming up in July.

I've never been, but am considering it.
I moved this message here from another thread on a less-related topic.

I guess that's the Annual Competition and Festival at the Boston Marriott Quincy from July 11-15, 2004.
You can find our more about it at http://www.ameraccord.com/.

Another interesting source of information: http://www.accordionlinks.com

Is it politically incorrect stereotyping to relate accordionists and "Lady of Spain"? I once dated a woman who played the accordion (not well), and she said she'd never heard of "Lady of Spain." Now, at the Cotati Accordion Festival in California in August, the festival closes every year with everybody playing "Lady of Spain." Hey, the Cotati festival even has Valet Bicycle Parking (this IS California, you know), for those of you who like to ferry your accordions around by bicycle.

I don't know how to play Lady of Spain. I can't say I've never played it, ever, because once, a long, long time ago, a banjo player tried to teach it to me. But I quickly forgot whatever it was that he tried to teach me.

I think, if I had a choice of one or the other, rather than attending the American Accordionist Convention, I would go to England to spend some time learning from some of the accordionists over there.

I have never been bothered to try Lady of Span, but remember it WAS big hit in the past - and for many people who listen to music - it is an easily recognisable tune.....
