Market Rasen Folk Club 26th March 2004

10 Mar 04 - 05:13 PM (#1133340)
Subject: Market Rasen Folk Club 26th March 2004
From: Rasener

Well there you go. I have now managed to find a new venue. It will be at the Market Rasen Social Club. There is a car park and it is disability friendly. Families will be very welcome, providing the children are quite and well behaved whilst the singing is in progress.

It will be in the function room, where peace and quite will be guaranteed. There will be a bar in the function room. Amplification will not be available.

The Grand Opening is Friday 26th March 2004. It will be on a two weekly basis.

On the 26th March, it just so happens that there is a special offer for a curry and a pint for £4.00. Anybody who might fancy that, must book ahead of the night and they will be expected to pay for it.

Each night will be from 8 until 11 oclock.

I have 4 - 15 minute slots available for any spot floor singers who would like to attend on that night. I can't pay anything for that privelage. They must be confident of spot floor singing. This will be on a first come first served basis. Anybody who is too late for a booking will be the first for the next session two weeks later and so on and so forth.

For those people who are not spot floor artists, there will be an opportunity in the earlier part of the evening to join in the singalong session. That will last for about 30 minutes. If anybody wishes to have support in that session, then please let me know.

I will also have 2 additional - 15 minute slots for young singers each night. Therefore if there is anybody that thinks their son or daughter or any mix, are very good singer(s) and can handle a floor spot, please let me know. It will be my decision as to their suitabilty. Maximum age limit 21.

Any remaining time will be for artists that I have personally selected.

I will provide further details of how to get there and who will be appearing in the slots as I get more info.

Everybody is welcome, singing or just listening and I really look forward to seeing you all..

You are very lucky, because I won't be singing or playing :-)

By all means post on this thread, but if you want a slot or would like to appear in the singalong, or have any concerns whatsoever, then please e-mail me at

lesworrall@firenet.uk.net

I may charge 50p entrance for all attendees that do not have a floor spot, and would hope that everybody will cough up for the raffle. This will enable me to get bookings such as the one mentioned below.

A date to remember, so put it in your diary.

Friday July the 9th 2004. Touchwood all the way from Sydney in Australia. To review them go to the following site.

Many thanks

If I were closer I'd pop in for a curry. But to be honest it would be quicker for me to fly to Bombay.

Can I just commend you on your excellent choice in booking Touchwood in July?!

You are biased and I will have to give you a red card. :-)

I am really looking forward to seeing you guys over here. We won't give you a tough time over the World Champions at Rugby. Promise :-)

All I need to do, is find some unsuspecting person to put you up on the 9th July.
I have sent an e-mail to the Queen asking if she can put you up at Buckingham Place. Would need a helicopter to pick you up from market rasen and dump you in London. I will wait for her reply :-)

Failing that, I will have to rely on the yokals.

As I have said, A tent in my back garden in our summer will be lovely.
Any better offers :-)

Les

All this reference to singing...are instrumentalists welcome as well? I just play the whistle and not sure if anyone could stand 15 minutes of solo from me! (IF Bloke is reading this might we be up for a cupla numbers together?)

I am aware that there are people such as yourself.
I have said that there will be a singalong session, and it was that area I was thinking of. Thats where you could link up with some of the other artists to perform something.
As this is the first time, I will still have to get the balance right.
If you already know of singers/instrumentalists you are comfortable to work with, then let me know, I will do my best to work that into the session. If you would like me to provide a match for you on the evening, I can also do that.
I am a bit consciouce of the social club members, and I have to ensure that if they come to listen, that they enjoy it and come back for more.
So yes I can accomodate you.
Can you please e-mail me with your tel number and I will give you a call and talk it through.

lesworrall@firenet.uk.net

This applies to other people like yourself, please do the same thing, then I can sort things out.

Cheers
Les

Villan,

Good luck for 26th. Sorry I won't be there to support your new club (Wandering Windward calls to me on Friday nights).

Congrats on booking Touchwood - saw them at "Almost Acoustic", supporting Enda Kenny, while I was in Sydney in February. It was a great evening.

Sounds like you have all the right ideas for a great club. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the input on Touchwood. I am sure they will send you big kisses. :-) Thanks also for the good luck wishes. Are you from Lincolnshire then?

Dáithí
Liam Robinson from the LittleBand is coming along on the 26th. He plays Button Accordeon and is willing to pal up with you and Bloke, if you can agree on what you want to do. How's that for an offer.

I suppose when I say a singalong, I guess I mean something like a jamming session.

You might raise money for the kitty by getting people to sponsor me not to bring my melodeon!

What a brilliant idea Sooz.

So come on all you goodly people who are coming along on the night, please send your sponsorship offers in writing and you can pay me on the night. The thought of Sooz showing us her melodeon is just too much to bare. :-)

lesworrall@firenet.uk.net

I take it that's a yes then Sooz, so I have allocated a slot for you, with Mike of course (unless of course he doesn't want to be seen with you flashing your melodeon at everybody). LMAO

The Spot Floor Slots have almost gone. So hurry up if you want a spot.

Why not pop along to Barrow next Tuesday. There's always a few bodies there, sometimes quite a few.

Hi Dáithí
Yes you and Bloke have a floor spot it will be a 10 minute spot - 2 or 3 songs. I will be so tight on time, that you will need to work within that parameter if that is OK.
Very glad to know that the two of you have got things organised.
You will be on about 8:30. I hope that is OK with both of you.

You are correct about the link. it is my e-mail address.

Which is

Can you pm me with your e-mail address and telephone number? I will then try to get in touch with you.

Villan, heard your dulcet tones on the Steam Radio last neet. Also heard the Delightful and Highly-Talented Lucy and that Far-Too-Clever-On-The-Guitar-For-His-Own-Good-Young-Bugger Paul! Weren't they good! Why didn't Lucy play the fiddle? I will rebuke her tomorrow neet!

Subject: RE: Market Rasen Folk Club 26th March 2004
From: Rasener

Oh no you won't rebuke her - it took a lot of guts for both of them to do that performance, and they didn't let anybody down.

Lucy did play the fiddle and Paul played guitar together with the guest who was on the Folk session with Tom and Mark. She played out the folk session, or wasn't you listening (maybe you were still gloryfying in the fact that they mentioned your name :-) he he).
She took advantage of singing 2 songs, and then playing out the folk session.
The trouble with radio, you can't see what is going on in the studio.
Lucy had the fiddle out ready to play at the end.

They were all very pleased with there performance. Big stars in the making.

My e-mail to Andrew David this morning.
Andrew
Thank you very much for last night, giving me the chance to promote the Market Rasen Folk Club.
I hope Lucy and Paul lived up to expectations.
Les

Reply from Andrew David e-mail to me this morning.

Absolutely lovely - you and they were stars - all the best with Friday - will give it another plug tomorrow.

End of e-mail

Aren't we lucky, we can hear both of them tomorrow :-)

Roll on tomorrow.

Les, my remarks were light-hearted (didn't you see the smiley face?). Did I say they let anyone down? Don't know where that came from - certainly not me. And I don't need to glorify in others mentioning my name - I let my own performances speak for me!

Sooz, I couldn't listen any longer because I was still at work. The bit I heard was in the car travelling back from an appointment, after that I was back in the office for a while and it was after the programme ended before I left. Disappointing, I'd have liked to hear the rest of the programme.

It went exceptionally well, and very smoothly. You were not wrong in what you told me about Lucy and Paul.
