As she researched some of her book on the mudcat, I thought I'd make sure everyone knew. "Shadow" is Zettel's version of the story of Sir Gawaine and the loathely lady. I like her heroine, Lady Rhian, a strong and independent lady. I like her Sir Gawaine, immensely. He isn't too much of a wounded soul. Nor is he the kind of mach hero, who begins a relationship by jumping the heroine. Zettel is a folklorist of some ability. She has researched her story well. She gives you a real feel for life in post Roman Brittain. I love her Guinevere, a wise and strong woman, who does not love Arthur but she loves what he stands for. I also loved her views on chivalry and heroism, exploring Gawaine, and Aggavaine, Arthur and Kai. I reccomend the book highly. |
