Gandy Bridge

by Flora Overby

{The Gandy Bridge was first erected on Tampa Bay in 1924}

Well the greatest thing in the grand old south
Is the brand new Gandy Bridge
It spans the waters of Tampa Bay
We drive from ridge to ridge

Birds golden throats more gaily sing
Stars brighter shine in glorious spring
The waves salute you when you bring
your sweetheart to Gandy Bridge

R(obins) and the mockingbirds are singing
waves softly whisper, stars are beaming
Gandy Bridge
The silver moon is smiling, waves are sighing
While flowers sweetly perfume Gandy Bridge

Oh Gandy Bridge we're all for you
we love you more and more
we praise you as we drive along
and speed from shore to shore

With stars so bright
the world seems right
a balmy breeze ,a lovely night
attunes the world with one accord
shout, "Welcome, all aboard!"

listen,
Gandy Bridge
waves softly whisper
Gandy Bridge
the stars are beaming
Gandy Bridge
and the silver moon is smiling, waves are sighing
Gandy Bridge
while flowers seem to perfume
Gandy Bridge
while flowers seem to perfume
Gandy Bridge

love, harpgirl (might need to tweak a word or two)

Small world; I live just a couple miles away from this bridge, and have never heard of this song. This bridge briefly was the longest in the world, by the way. Was this perhaps commissioned for the opening cermonies? Who has performed this? Where can I hear it?

Daug Gauss performs it on his Welcome to Florideo CD. Write him at doug@talstar.com

I believe it was commissioned for the bridge opening, Gern

Another great song, Harpy. Which bridge is the Gandy, and how did it get its name?
