19 Mar 04 - 11:38 AM (#1140991) Subject: March Shanty Session From: curmudgeon What with getting the session together for Brett's visit, prep for St. Patrick's Day, rehearsals for another show, shitty waether, etc., I forgot to post a reminder for the monthly Shanty / Forebitter Session. It will happen tomorrow from 3:30 to 7:30 at the Press Room, 77 Daniel Street, Portsmouth NH. Hope to see lots of you -- Tom |

19 Mar 04 - 02:18 PM (#1141108) Subject: RE: March Shanty Session From: Charley Noble Not to worry! Looks like I'll be the only one attending from Roll & Go. I'm going to try to launch "Hell's Pavement" which is a John Masefield sea poem that I've just arranged to a composite music hall tune and added a chorus. Should sound nice with Tom's concertina; check the thread for a preview. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

20 Mar 04 - 12:00 AM (#1141460) Subject: RE: March Shanty Session (Portsmouth, New Hampshire) From: Naemanson Charley, don't forget to truck Jeri's present down to her. From what she's said about her place I figure she might have trouble getting it into her house. Oh well, too bad. Better than trying to get it to Guam. |

I'll be there, but I don't know how long I'll last, The voice is doing its weather-changing, heat's on/off, crappy thing again, I've been working my arse off, I have things to do at home and a practice tomorrow afternoon. After the doldrums of February, March seems insane! I understand hares now. |

20 Mar 04 - 10:15 AM (#1141674) Subject: RE: March Shanty Session (Portsmouth, New Hampshire) From: Charley Noble Jeri- Would you bring your fiddle? I'm thinking of trying "Flying-Fish Sailor" again. Damn Brett and his presents. It's been terrorizing our pack of kitties, and it's not even clear which end you feed. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

(Oh, and probably run real fast after you do that.) Did Brett leave enough of the psychotropic banana leaves or whatever those tranquilisers are? Or did you eat them in self defense? Linn |

20 Mar 04 - 12:27 PM (#1141750) Subject: RE: March Shanty Session (Portsmouth, NH) From: Jeri I can bring the fiddle, although if you do the song in a key I don't do very well, you may regret me having it! I've got a new shanty, but I'll have to do it before Jeff gets there...or maybe bring some ear plugs |

21 Mar 04 - 08:10 PM (#1142555) Subject: RE: March Shanty Session (Portsmouth, NH) From: Charley Noble Jeri- Well, the "Flying-Fish Sailor" MP3 sample file is being uploaded to my website, by Judy, as I post this message. We had a small but wonderful singing session yesterday. When it's small there's the advantage of responding more directly to what other people have led. Jeri did a nice job with Kendall Morse's whaling song. I want to hear it again. Bruce and Dave left too soon and I wish Barbara has been able to roll in sooner. The snow wasn't bad going home until we were north of Portland. Thanks again, Tom and Linn, for hosting these sessions. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
