Ross, I have copies of both the MacColl and the Gaughan cassettes. Would a copy of those be sufficient? In that case, contact me at: skw et worldmusic dot de

Just wondering.   Do any of you know what strike this would have been referring to?

That should have said ' miners strike, ' when Thatcher tried to close all our pits.

it also became her own personal vendetta against the miners leader Athur Scargill, rather than anything to do with political policy, but that was thatcher all over.....not that i am bitter or anything.

oh i am mate,my nine year old daughter asked me the other day "who is worse saddam or thatcher"after a 15 min chat she was in no doubt that in this particular case the female of the species is more deadlier than the male.

Last three posters - how nice to see someone agree with me. I once nearly caused apoplexy at a lunch with some lawyers when as a conversational gambit we were asked to nominate the most evil person of the twentieth century, and I chose her...

In all the recent features regarding the 20th anniversary of The Miners Strike that I have seen sympathy has been overwhelmingly with the miners.
"Daddy did you stay out through the strike,
Did you stand beside your workmates through the fight,
Or did you show your yellow belly, spill your guts there on the telly,
And let the bosses fill you full of shite?"

Indeed.

i have witnessed police officers "bragging" about how arthur scargill helped pay off their mortgages or paid for their extension, some even wore badges proclaiming this whilst on duty during the picketing, this type of goading is enough to make any man crack the result being that at the time rags like the sun only reported things like,"rampaging miners attack police" and public support was with the government, but now the truth has been told the public are very sympathetic to the striking miners cause.
