Since then I have sung it for many other anniversary celebrants. It would be perfect. E-mail me at mooseman@arctic.net and I'll find a way to get it to you. Best wishes, Mike |
22 Mar 04 - 09:20 PM (#1143456) Subject: RE: Songs for 60th Wedding Anni???? From: Big Jim from Jackson Cathy Barton and David Para do a song by a fellow named Lee Ruth called "Fifty Golden Years". Of course, the title could be changed to "Sixty Golden Years". You can get a copy of the song through Folk-Legacy records. It truly is a fine song. If you contact Sand or Caroline Paton, I'm sure they can help you get the CD. |
22 Mar 04 - 10:02 PM (#1143470) Subject: RE: Songs for 60th Wedding Anni???? From: Sandy Mc Lean My suggestion would be "I Love You Because You Understand Dear" written by Leon Payne for his wife Myrtie. Many people have recorded this, and some with great success, but to my mind the original by Payne was the best. He can be heard doing this song on The Record Lady. Sandy |

23 Mar 04 - 09:08 AM (#1143767) Subject: RE: Songs for 60th Wedding Anni???? From: GUEST I got put on the spot in Scotland when I attended a couple's 50th Wedding anniversary. They knew I was a singer and asked for a song. I said "I just can't think of a love song suitable for commemorating such a romantic occasion". The old man said "There's nae love in it, dearie! It's all about endurance!". That got me off the hook. I asked if they'd ever had recourse to a bit of the wee drop to help them along through the difficult times. The answer was a resounding "Aye". I sang "The Humours of Whiskey" and it went over perfectly. They made a video of it that they play over and over for their friends. |

From: breezy 'All there is 'by Garnet Rogers done sensitively will bring tears to all eyes and ' By and By' by George Papavgeris, it begins 30 years but 60 will work, its alove song about relationship longevity. thats if you are looking for something different and not hackneyed these are 2 'class' songs |
23 Mar 04 - 01:44 PM (#1144032) Subject: RE: Songs for 60th Wedding Anni???? From: Clinton Hammond I've been playing "All That Is" since Garnet wrote it... and well, I have to admit, it seems more applicable to the beginning than this close to the end... heh |
24 Mar 04 - 05:46 AM (#1144645) Subject: RE: Songs for 60th Wedding Anni???? From: Flash Company How about 'My Old Dutch' with 'We've been together now for sixty years' instead of the published forty years. Done properly there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house! FC |
24 Mar 04 - 05:55 AM (#1144654) Subject: RE: Songs for 60th Wedding Anni???? From: breezy you are absolutly correct Clinton, but, its reflective too. I never perform it in public, I keep it for weddings then sing it in private to the bride and groom and , well, you know, try and hold it together!! Mind you I've only been privileged to do it once and it went just as planned and anticipated so go get 'By and By' from George Papavgeris on his new CD lauccccnched last Friday, then watch out for his song called 'Without you on Christmas Day' due out on his next CD BTW he's in Houston Texas this week on work experience Have the tissues ready |

27 Mar 04 - 02:40 PM (#1147718) Subject: RE: Songs for 60th Wedding Anni???? From: Dickmac Why don't you write one. You could do a parody on any well known song and personalise it. Or simply pinch a tune you are comfortable singing and make up a funny song based on their lives, it's not really difficult. My wife and I have done this often for landmark birthdays etc. It doesn't have to be wonderful poetry and the "victims" have always appreciated the effort. |
01 Apr 04 - 08:22 PM (#1152413) Subject: RE: Songs for 60th Wedding Anni???? From: GUEST,Carl Tappan I did (at their request) a slightly reworded version of "45 years" for my grandparents' 60th a while back, just switched 45 to "60-some" and it went well. The parody idea would also be good. Carl |

I ended up not singing for them at all, which was good, cause the party wasn't really that kinda affair.... And well, they're just not much of a musical family... (Read as "Couldn't get a note from Post-It! ) LOL |
