Work this out.

Help in working this problem out please. Diagram from left shows pivot point, plank, box on top of plank. Underneath a block with an upwards arrow.

No jokes about planks please!

Centre of pivot point (left hand side of plank) plus attatched plank, length = 80cm. Box on extreme right hand side of plank. Underneath plank there is a block 20cm from centre of the pivot which has an upwards force of 100N.

Questions

Calculate the moment (turning affect) of the 100N force about the pivot? Show your working?

The box on the right hand side of the plank is just heavy enough to keep the plank balanced.
What is the moment of the box about the pivot. Give the units?
What is the weight of the box?

The 100N force acts on a block with area 5cm squared.
Calculate the pressure on the block? Give the units?

If anyone can work this out please show workings as well?

Much appreciated

Red Eye.

I dont recognise these lyrics. I have searched everywhere must be a new composition.
What key is it played in?

Simple: Addition of the multiplcations of each of the forces by each associated distance from the fulcrum on each side will equal the other if the plank is in balance - if not, then the difference between the two sides will give the amount and the direction of the resultant turning moment.

That should be enough help to get you started on your homework! First History, now maths... Max, when did you advertise the Mudcat as a Homework help guide, or is this part of the new Megolomanic (sorry, Mudcat!) Fund Raising Scheme?

You have lost your way. This is the Mudcat (Song) Forum, not the Mudcat Technical Education Seminar. And why have you started this thread twice under two different titles? Please desist.

I tried translating this via Korean and Italian (thanks babelfish for making things so clear) and I think I understand it without a daigram now...

This inner operation of problem to the external part, the aid is satisfied. From the left part of the table the box is visible it over in on of the point of the hinge, the plancia and the plancia. In meat of anger of increase in the more inferior part of the block. As far as the plancia that the joke is not satisfied,! point of the hinge (the left part of of plancia) the center the plancia positive, extreme length = of plancia in the box it of right 80cm. attatched. In the notebook 20cm of the more inferior part 100N of the plancia it comes from the center to the hinge that is increase force. As far as a moment of the hinge 100N of force question (the pebble produces the effect)? Is visible your day? The plancia an equilibrium interferes and in order to defend the box it he is only heavy in the right the plancia enough. As far as a moment of the hinge of the box it that what. It gives the unit? The weight of the box it happens that what? 100N the force the zone where ago in the square 5cm it is behaved in the block. It produces the pressure in the block? It gives the unit? The possibility this operation from a song boring of the army is and the day is visible with the sameness? The wide amount that is estimated the red-dark eye.

I am now off to try to compose a song to include these beautiful poetic lines...

The possibility this operation from a song boring of the army is and the day is visible with the sameness?

Nick_: are you the same person who wrote the instruction booklet for the alarm clock we bought the other day? If so, we need some help explaining how to actually set it to go off in the morning.

Greg

If it has the following instructions then - yes - I can proudly say it was me.

**********

The key of the selector selects the symbol ' of the alarm ' of the frumento.

You fall alarmed and in the order the hour in order to put with in happening use the posterior key (24 hours to the inside of remaining).

In becoming in circle in this morning of thorium of it, you reward the falling key of the alarm.

**************

(I think using Korean as an interim language and then translating to Italian and back is clarifying matters considerably) - what the original gains in clarity it loses elsewhere. The final sentence has a beauty that is missing in the following -

Push the selector button and select the 'alarm' symbol.

Use the forward and back button to set the time you want the alarm to go off (in 24 hour format).

Press the off alarm button when it rings in the morning.
