30 Mar 04 - 05:09 AM (#1149747) Subject: Lyr Req: Siobhan Ni Dhuibhir (Suzy McGuire) From: Maffet Hello, I am interested in such a lovely song. I know it from many sides ... from Clannad (Siobhan Ni Dhuibhir), Alan Stivel (as Suzy McGuire) from Patrick Ball (as Susie McGuire) and from Norland Wind as Siabhan Ni Dhuibhir. I hope that ... it was all names, this song can have :-) Tune is very easy and even I am not very handy of catching tune by ear, I got it during few minutes, so I am able to play it as simple slowly air. But it is also great song to sing. One problem is that it has only irish lyrics. Even I tried hard, I nearly break my tongue. I can sing it as I catch it by ear and dont care, because in my country only few knows irish languge ... but I dont want to sing it that way. I am too true, to try this. Dont care to sing in spanish, french or even elvish ... but irish is for me too difficult. Does exist some english version? I found that this song is very rare to find on internet, even it is well known and even if you dont know name, you surely heard it somewhere. |

Sorrow and ruin be upon me if I wish you to be in a graveyard My grief and troubles rain down on you But you can stay in Irras until the tribe of Eve comes to the fore Susan O'Dwyer, you're the beginning and the end of my story From the women of the world she took the prize With brightness and fairness, goodness and almost perfect beauty And I'm the sad case to leaving her tomorrow My true love is over in Irras The young sweet thing that refused to marry me yesterday Tell her from me if I give her a kiss That I would give her more if they'd send me a dowry with her "Tell him from me for certain I won't marry him For I heard that he wanted me with a dowry Since I don't have wealth or much of a fortune Let him have whoever he wishes and I'll be about my own business" |
