BS: The next big thing

We had Dean Kamen's people mover a while back but something more basic is now on the market.

The perfect electric motor,,,and its not American.
The perfect flashlight ( lasts 1000 times longer ) is not American either.

IMHO If it is not a weapon the US is no longer the birthplace of ideas that benefit mankind. Research in the US is now under such scrutiny with severe limitations on freedom by political powers that the US may not be the great innovators for some time to come.

Is it April 1 yet in Japan?

I still remember when all the Japanese did was copy Western Technology
and then started improving on it. Reference Motorbikes , Cars , Cameras , etc.

I was an inventor myself Carol, and know there are immediate friends and foes to new ideas as naturally as there is night and day.

My ideas led eventually to the Chohlear implant.

I was inspired by the humble experience of witnessing a deaf guitarist at RIT.

I was semi-joking. I think I've seen similar things come up here and there as April fool's jokes, but if this one is for real, I'm all for it.

The next big thing is Kirstie Ally. She is on the cover of some supermarket tabloid this week at 275 lbs.

From a fox to a hog.

Funny, I would have thought anyone smart enough to invent a cochlear implant would know how to spell it.

It must be tough going through life being half Japanese, half Sears Roebuck. What a shame your front is plywood and and your back is nato.

Sigh.

Correct English spelling has nothing to do with intelligence. Nor do typing skills. The only woman I know who types worse than I do also speaks seven languages.

This could be terribly exciting news, actually. It means we can conceivably run on a third or less of the energy we now consume without reduction in our basic services.

Leonard Linkow, in the 1950s, was one of the first to insert titanium and other metal implants into the bones of the jaw. Artificial teeth were then attached to these pieces of metal. In 1965 Brånemark placed his first titanium dental implant into a human volunteer.

Like Leonard, my 1975 external version only led to a refined end product. There was a virtual army of people all contributing toward a solution. My initial inspiration was a deaf guitarist friend.

I've got a lock on ways that don't work. Failures are still helpful.
With a change in tech and transmossion some things are worth a second look. To help heal the perineurium in MS victims my idea is to clone myelin sheath cells and inject in Cerebral spinal fluid. Someone should try this since I can't do it myself.

12 Sep 20 - 07:33 PM (#4071674)
Subject: RE: BS: The next big thing
From: Steve Shaw

No-one can ever do it because there is no such thing as "myelin sheath cells." It's a very slow process with you, but one day you will finally learn that there are people here on Mudcat who you can't bamboozle with your bullshit.

12 Sep 20 - 08:25 PM (#4071686)
Subject: RE: BS: The next big thing
From: Donuel

coating, even your, nerves are insulating cells. These are not the cells that bind tendons but perineurium around the nerves. What I don't know is that when once cloned from a person's own existing insulating cells, if they will 'home in' on missing or damaged sites and grow.
This is a 40 year old idea I have had. The jury is out that I have always had an imagination and all you have is a stiff upper vitriolic lip.

I suppose you don't know the nature of the damage MS does or have known people with its varying degrees of damage. You see Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). In MS , the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body.

Sorry I assumed you know basic things. Yes I do write in a short handed manner and assume more than I should. Besides its not about you.

I still remember when all the Japanese did was copy Western Technology

what even then we called a "Chinese Copy" !

I think that China has taken that mantle, now! And improved on it!

I have heard it said that "the British make the best lovers, but the Japanese make them smaller and cheaper"

But we can still make the biggest misanthropes...............😖

13 Sep 20 - 08:14 AM (#4071723)
Subject: RE: BS: The next big thing
From: Donuel

haha I never heard that.

SPEAKING OF MISANTHROPES = they are not my enemy. My enemy is the -DENIAL- that resides in people that ignore the real issues in the lives they lead and think they must also insist that others must live up to ... They insist upon a patriarchy, capitalism greed, racism, colonialism, and deny that they are in the grip of antiquated ideas that are not their own liberated spirit.
To tolerate others who are different is a love society needs desperately. It is evolving. We are at a time when people are not defined by the work we do or where we are and are beyond just living in survival mode. Our identity is not confined to sameness. We can be different without approval from restricted people living in denial.
I prefer a transformative life without denial and can tolerate those who still live a life they think they must fit into a single mold and modality. The opportunity to examine one's own life exists every morning so there is hope for those who still lead unexamined lives.

I grew up with the credo "let each of us contribute with the talents we have to the best of our abilities". NYS school credo.

DENIAL keeps us from asking the scary questions.
Denial keeps us from seeking the elusive answers.

Believe it or not I like Steve. I too would be skeptical of a Forest Gump like character like me. Unlikely events lined up for an average guy like me to my own surprise. In text I sound so serious but in real life I don't even talk of such things as a likely future, Black Holes, Cults, Denial, ESP, UFOs or strange encounters.

Maybe I just don't believe in 'normal' and we are all equally unlikely to have happened.

Myelin is a fatty/proteinaceous substance that insulates axons. The myelin sheath is produced by two kinds of cells but is not cellular in itself. I don't particularly care whether you like me or not. What I do care about is people (and you are by no means alone) who take it on themselves to peddle misinformation on this website about matters touching on the medical. Your confusion about the nature of the myelin sheath is harmless. Your pontifications about vitamin supplements, among other medical issues, may not be, and what I pick up from your own posts about your own medical issues suggests that you are not exactly the best person to be proffering medical advice here. Actually, another website that promotes Irish music had a strict policy at one time that forbade unqualified persons from posting medical "advice." I had many differences with that website's owners, but that was a good policy that we could well adopt here. I would remind you that Joe Offer fired across your bows very recently about your serial habit of peddling misinformation. Joe and I frequently cross swords here, but on that occasion he was absolutely spot on. And perhaps Maggie will note that this is a direct response to a matter raised in this thread and to the fact that my name was used in the post above this one. And that I'm being polite, measured and uncondescending.

IMO, you guys are looking too hard to find something to quibble about.

From Wikipedia: "The two types of Schwann cells are myelinating and nonmyelinating.[1] Myelinating Schwann cells wrap around axons of motor and sensory neurons to form the myelin sheath."

Yeah, well, Jeri. I used to teach this stuff. Admittedly, as a graduate in plant science, I had to look a lot of stuff up when it came to animal anatomy and physiology. Many moons ago, again admittedly. And, I must say, that, unlike Maggie, you at least put Donuel and me on the same footing. Progress of a sort, I suppose. I'll rein meself in, but it behoves all of us to call out Donuel-style misinformation when it's peddled on this site, especially if it's couched in terms of "medical advice."   In m'humble, as ever.

Lets argue if chitlin in the ecto skeleton of insects is organic or not.?!
There is no misinformation that I had an idea that needs research in hopes it could help MS victims. I do not know if it has been tried to this day.
In regards to early posts about Corona virus I let people know the information was coming straight from the NIH via a high ranking employee. Now data from the CDC, WHO and even NIH that is publicly released is washed by Trump employees or changed by Russian domains.
I have always been four square against misinformation whether it was Iains, Joe or Steve. Steve's misinformation is always about me. Keep your cheese on your cracker or I'll write a strongly worded letter. :^/
Steve be satisfied you already added a virtual drop of ink to a clear gallon of drinking water and made things darker.

Meanwhile I bet everyone here now has the flash light/torch referenced back in 2004. The big thing now in the US is the AG attempting to indict Democrats running against the Trump machine.
Stand firm against the misinformation storm from now until Jan.2nd.
