Well, the conservative lock on radio isn't exactly being threathened here but Air America, a liberal leaning station, debuted today. The only place you might be able to receive it is XM satilite radio for now...

...but it's a start.

It's broadcast on WLIB AM 1190 out of NYC.
I tuned in for awhile today, but my AM reception sucks so I had to turn it off.

I listened for a while via the web. Michael Moore was on the first Franken program. They were pretty subdued compared to the impression I get of bombast from the programming coming from the right.

it's fine to have a program where a liberal point of view is expounded....IF it doesn't turn into a farce. Remember, the reason that conservative shows get so much publicity is the loud, brash, quarrelsome, illogical way that Rush & his imitators strech credulity. We ain't gonna win any points by just screaming back.

If the answer is, "oh, it's all just entertainment, anyway..", then why bother? Shows stay on the air because of RATINGS, and I suspect that they will encourage show over sense. Sometimes I think that letting the "I'm always right, just ask me" conservatives babble foolishly by themselves might be the safest course.

Bill D, it IS nice to hear someone lucidly articulate a political view that I agree with for once! I couldn't take a steady diet of it--too much of anything (even something normally healthy) isn't good for you. But now and then, it's a nice change.

Interesting that the ads that came through were the New Jersey ones, and mostly they seemed to be from Lexus. This liberal democrat can't afford one of those!

I never listen to talk radio (I seem to be on the same page as Deckman), but I do listen to radio on the web. To say this is the only left leaning radio is absurd, though.

Pacifica (despite the recent corporate cannibalization of it) has been around a long time. If you listen to public radio that isn't NPR, you can actually hear quite a bit of progressive and liberal radio. Democracy Now with Amy Goodman, for instance, is really good. Now granted, there isn't a national progressive radio network, but there are a good number of progressive radio stations, in very big markets.

KPFK in LA, KPFA in Berkeley, WBAI in NY, and WPFW in DC are probably the best known. But here in MN we have KFAI. But for those who are sick and tired of mainstream pablum like NPR offers, you could always have look through some of these internet links to progressive radio programs and stations:

INTERNET RADIO FOR THE LEFT

I guess what this is all about is the Republicrats don't feel they have a national radio network of their very own, so they can keep all us radical leftists off the air. I consider that to be A Good Thing, because the liberals have really made a fine mess of things.

I mean c'mon, do we really need another outlet to hear Hilary Clinton?

Yeah, I can't see turning away from Pacific myself but a dose of liberal babble now and then never hurts...

About as liberal as you can get, John.

Whoops, liberal radio is off the air in LA and Chicago. The company that broadcasts their programs there claim that Air America Radio's checks bounced.

Normal. No money in being a liberal. The conservatives have 99% of the dough and own 99% of thre media that brainwashes working folks to vote for rich conservtaives. Go figure. Fact is stranger than fiction.

Dachshunds are natural-born conservatives, and they don't listen to the radio at all.
