From: Ellenpoly I know there will be people reacting negatively to the idea of yet another person coming forward to testify, in contravention of the official secrets act, but I'm really starting to believe that it may be just those people who will be able to bring down the Bush League...and I say, bless em. OK guys, let er rip...xx..e http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=507514 |

If he's not voted out in November (he will be), then he'll be there for four more years. Not earth-shaking. This hyperbole is the only thing that's new. oops. I guess even that is not new. |

02 Apr 04 - 12:25 PM (#1152825) Subject: RE: BS: whistle blowers..our last hope? From: Nigel Parsons MC Fat: It doesn't make Steve Moxon a 'Star' He has accepted that he cannot make any meaningful comments to the 'Media' despite what he knows. He tried to alert a senior to the abuses of the system several months ago. He was ignored, and the Minister to whom he sent a warning email claims she didn't read it because it was filtered out by an underling. Why someone can filter messages to a cabinet minister, & 'screen' those which may be important is now the main question. The minister in question has now resigned over another matter. She claimed ignorance of the problems with immigration from the Czech republic & Hungary, and proffered her resignation when she was confronted with a letter sent to her last year on the same subject, AND HER RESPONSE TO THAT LETTER!! He used to publish a folk magazine around the rugby area - good ideas but he vanished from the folk scene all of a sudden in circumstances we never really got to understand. Er maybe you have a point though...... |

In any case, I don't know what he does for a living, but he certainly seems to have a lot of time to devote to attempting to set we poor fact-bereft pilgrims back on the path of righteousness. I just sort of wonder why. One is entitled to one's own opinion, of course. But one is not entitled to one's own facts. Don Firth |

We Whistlers are frequently maligned by those who are not knowledge about the finer points of Whistling. Next thing you know, there'll be a pic on the Chiff&Fipple of some feller in the oval orfice blowing onto a Tin Whistle & screaming for his staff to find the personage who sold him the Tin Whistle of Mass Destruction, & have him shot & sent to the Russian front because he can't get it to work correctly. Film on Letterman at 11:30, followed by white house denials & CNN follow-up! |

He really does not live in Great Britain, but instead occupies spacious quarters in the White House where he is provided a computer and an open line to Karl Rove so that he may enlighten those Mudcatters on matters of great importance. Who? Why those of you who would like to see his boss removed from office in Novemeber. :>) DougR |

From: MC Fat Suggest in relation to S.Moxon being a folkie he is a 'singer/songwriter' and he does write reviews for Stirrings. Suffice to say that even if he were telling the truth I would probably not believe it just because he is a prat. |

06 Apr 04 - 09:23 AM (#1155625) Subject: RE: BS: whistle blowers..our last hope? From: freda underhill Whistleblowers .. stand out like tall poppies, ready to be crushed down. If more people were politically active, had a sense of responsibility about their community, rather than being a nation of beached whales, maybe we wouldnt need whistleblowers. at least in democracies we can rely on people to still keep piping up. Lets hope we get a whistler blower who goes into parliament with their whistle and like the Pied Piper walks out again, with all the political puppets following.... |

06 Apr 04 - 12:49 PM (#1155827) Subject: RE: BS: whistle blowers..our last hope? From: Chief Chaos Unfortunately today's whistleblower no longer has the backing of a non-partisan Gov't to look into things. All too often the Gov't is who the whistle blower is tattling on. You can count on your gov't to come down on them like a ton of bricks, discrediting the source rather than satisfactorily explaining the issues raised. And forget corporate whistleblowers. Unless they bring out enough evidence of their own, Uncle Sam will back the corporation 100%. Even if they do they might be brought up on charges of stealing from the Co. or disclosing sensitive documents. |

06 Apr 04 - 08:59 PM (#1156180) Subject: RE: BS: whistle blowers..our last hope? From: GUEST,pdc I think one of the problems with whistleblowing, at least under the Bush administration, is that it doesn't seem to work any more. It is only effective with an administration that doesn't want to be caught doing what it does. The Bush group don't care if they are caught, if the public becomes aware of their chicanery, etc., as they either simply lie about the issue, or paper it over with rhetoric, or rely on the fact that most of the media (their media) will ignore it, or -- most especially -- the fact that the average voter will never hear about it and will vote based on the last-minute red-white-and-blue rhetoric that they hear. You need more than an informed electorate -- you need an educated electorate. I believe the Bush cabal is fully aware of the "nine-day-wonder" aspect of issues, and that people will either believe the lies they tell or forget about it in a couple of weeks anyway. |

I'll tell ya' what, if I'm gtonna blow a whistle these days under T-Bird's boss, I'll do it from Mars, thank you... Ain't safe to do it in the U.S. unless you wanted to be branded a "TRAITOR", or worse... Bottom line, yer boss can be planning to highjack planes and fly them into buildings but you had better not say a word about it. Give this ol' hillbilly a break, will ya? This unquestioned centralization of power is reminisent of Germany in the 30's. Weren't no whistle blowers then either....... Bobert |
