Tech: Help, My CD Burner won't open

I was trying to burn some CD's (my own demos - not pirate copies) and the CD burner locked up. Now I've got a blank CD in there and it won't come out. Does anybody know how to open it? When you push the little button that is supposed to make the CD pop out nothing happens. Thanks for any advice!

Bend a paper clip (a wire one) out straight. You'll see a little hole, possibly above the "in use" light. Carefully stick the straightened paper clip in that hole and press. It should pop the CD tray out an inch or so, and you can pull it the rest of the way.

It's like a hidden button.

You can try pushing a paperclip into the small hole in the front. Might trigger a release. Supposed to.

If its indicator light is blinking, reboot/restart (maybe several times) till it quits blinking. Then push the regular eject button.

Or you can try shutting down the puder-- turning it off. As it goes thru shutdown, if the blinking stops before power is gone, push the button right then and it may eject. Pop in a fresh CD if you can and close it, or put in the fresh one during startup.

The question is, is it stuck mechanically... or is it not being recognized by the software properly and blinking because it thinks it's an elephant in a refrigerator?

Thank you! Susan. The problem you described was what was happening - the light kept on blinking and the darned thing wouldn't open. Your solution worked.

Oh GOOD, I am so glad that worked out-- I HATE it when that happens and it's always just when I want to burn CDs all day. So I know how ya felt!

One of these days I guess I'll ask my local tech how come that happens. If you find out first, tell me!
